Yes, especially not enough light or food. They will definitely shrink.

isnt feeding them not necessary?? I have metal halides, so I am guessing they had plenty of light

If you have enough light some people believe they can go without feeding (I am not one of them FWIW). If there's not enough light they will definitely need to be fed occasionally. What lights (wattage) over what tank (size) is important, not just the type of lighting.

And there are other possible causes, these 2 are simply the most likely by far.

I have a 10k SE MH 175 watt over it
