Fairy/Flasher advice

I've been bitten by the wrasse bug and am looking for other fairy/flasher owners input. I have a linespot flasher from regular LA and a yellow fin flasher from divers den arriving Tues and am so excited. I will have had a small lubbocks fairy in a 29 quarantine for a week when the new guys arrive. Do u think if I just rearrange all the decor before I put the new ones in they'll b ok? Will the lubbocks already "own" the tank and get aggressive or should things go fairly smooth?

Get yourself in acclimation box. I used to think they were unnecessary, but after seeing how smoothly introducing new fish, particularly new wrasses to existing wrasses, I am a convert. They definitely diffuse aggression annod make for a smooth transition for new fish.

Are you talking about rearranging the QT ? All 3 wrasses will be in the 29g QT for weeks ?

$8 on Ama-Zon for the acclimation boxes. I just got a 2nd one to add my 2 new wrasses to my existing 2 wrasses. and if you order now , you can get it by Tue when your wrasses come in.
I just got a line spot wrasse... <3

Thanks guys. Wifey is on amazon prime so thx for that idea Bernie. Congrats on ur little wrasse collection btw :) I'm glad to see ur linespot just came from LA and is doing well-- maybe I'm receiving a relative of yours haha.
Yes Albano all three wrasse in a 29 for prob four weeks total I'd guess. Was going to do my usual prazi then cupramine -- although I am a little nervous about it since I've seen a few people saying wrasses do better going straight into display-- not willing to roll those dice tho.

There are a couple genera of Wrasse that some skip QT for. Fairy and Flasher Wrasses are not ;) Get them eating in QT, two doses of Prazi, another two weeks observation, and into the DT. No cupramine though. If Ich treatment is necessary, use tank transfer method IMO.

Thanks Marshall--- so not even a slow ramp up on the cupramine huh. I'm in restock mode this last month coming off a fish disease wipeout 14 week fallow nightmare. The only guy who survived was an ora orchid dotty. Which is sorta funny because now I've "suddenly" (after many years) discovered all these amazing little wrasse and dottys r on the non compatible list. I'll prob catch the dotty in the display and let the new guys get used to it then reintroduce dotty in acclimation box when time comes. Most people say the orchids r the only dottys that r safe and I'd like to keep him if I can. Any opinion on that? Does make me nervous to go without cupramine as I'm sure u understand.

Orchid dottybacks are pretty peaceful, I have never had an issue with one being aggressive toward wrasse introduced after him.

I would skip the cuprimine as well. Fairy and flasher wrasses are fairly resistant to ich, yet are a bit sensitive to copper.

That's good to hear about ur orchid experience--- that seems to b the case from all my reading. Always get excited and nervous at the same time for new fish arrivals. Breakfast is the best btw, just had a hugs one :) I'll reread up on tank transfer in case I go that route, I feel pretty comfortable with cupramine at .40 but seems like I need to reconsider with what I'm reading n hearing now. Thanks everyone.

Acclimation box as mentioned and you should be fine. I would do tank transfer on all fish (even leopard wrasses) once they're eating well and 2 rounds of Prazi.

Wrasses are an easy addiction to come by. Good luck,

Adam

Im sure there's better ones, but this is the 2nd one I have and it gets the job done. The 1st one Ive had for years, so they work and they last!!!!

For a few $ more, you can get a 'critter keeper' at Petco/Walmart/etc... Holds multiple fish with room for PVC 'hiding places'

How would you get it to hang on the side of the aquarium at the top, or would you just let it sit at the bottom?

I suspend it using plastic zip ties ... At different levels, depending on what level the new fish will normally swim at.

This. I always use one, and always feed the tank with the fish still in the acclimation box. Makes life a whole lot easier.

I use an old magfloat. You need some holes to provide water circulation. I used a soldering iron to melt holes. Drilling gives jagged edges, melting gives smooth edges. Not my idea, speaker at Macna suggested it.

When it comes time to do tank transfer method are two ten gallon tanks big enough for the three wrasse--- about 2.5" each? I was going to buy 2 sets of pvc for hiding spots etc. which I'll thoroughly clean between transfers.

i used a net breeder for an acclimation box. found it at the lfs in the freshwater fish section. it has suction cups on one side. it was around $4.
