Does anyone know what the roseafascia usually retails for? I've never seen it for sale before so i'm not sure what they usually go for.

I paid $110.00 for mine, when i bought him he was 2 1/2 inches he grew to 4 1/2 inches in three months and became a total bully. I sold him.

Scott

wow, 2 inches in three months. That's fast. Well mine is already about 4 1/2 inches I guess I am going to have to keep an eye on him and be ready to pull him out if he starts acting up.

The C. Earlei pair will arrive May 9. The C. Rhomboidalis pair have arrived and are beautiful. The C. Johnsoni pair arrive May 12. I will post pictures when I can. Harem of C. Jordani arrive May 16.

Update, so far the Temminckii has been hiding, has not come out for food yet. Took a look at him with a flash light and he looks to be in good shape, guess he is still adjusting to the tank. The Lineatus knows exactly where the Temminckii is hiding and seems to leave him alone.

Question, my LFS just got another shipment of wrasses in yesterday. A laboutei and a scott and also an unknown Fairy. All of these Fairies are about the same size as my lineatus and temminckii. I was thinking about picking them all up and adding them to my tank. I am thinking its better to add all at once instead of individually.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Steven

tank and stock...

tank and stock...

hello.. just a general poll here.. just wanted to find out which wrasses you guys have in your tanks.. if you have more than one tank, feel free to post... :) also, please include the size of the tank, what you normally feed, and how often you feed to keep them happy and brightly colored..

hope this is okay to post here... if not, PLMK so I can post it in the normal "Reef Fish" section..

Thanks
Marvin

Well I have a few flasher wrasses.
2 female carpenter's flasher wrasses (male died :( )

40 gallon breeder reef tank
Usually feed cyclopeeze or mysis
Feed them 1-2 times a day.

Mr. Tanaka here's some pics of the Debelius swimming. I can't believe how hard it is to get a semi clear shot of him. These are the three best out off at least 50. Is this fairy wrasse really rare?? I had a very hard time trying to find any info on the web of it.

Update: Unfortunately my beautiful Temminckii did not make it. Lesson to be learned, no matter how nice the fish looks, if it is not swimming and eating do not purchase. I had a choice between 3 Temmincki and choose the best looking one and the least active looking one. I knew i was taking a chance when i bought this and so i paid the price............. :(

Luckily for me the only one that was eating was still available today, just not as nice as the first one but i know this one is eating and very active. Here's a picture.

Colors not as deep as the first one and the pectorial fins are shorter.

Tanaka: shorter pectorial fins, does this mean this fish is a female?

Tanaka: Please help me ID this fairy, they called it a yellow streak fairy wrasse from Austrailia. Has a orange shoulder, reddish belly, and blue base. Couldn't find any pics similar to this wrasse online.

Thanks all the people,
I try to answer as much as possible in stead of Bronco if I can.

blface,
Debelius' (or Adorned Fairy, Decorated Fairy) is not rare but is restricted to central western part of Sumatra, so not so many individuals will be shipped regularly.
My tank is only for photographing so it is smaller and simple, not well decorated with live corals, but those of all persons here are larger so fairies and flashers seem much more difficult to photograph.
Well blface, how long the Debelius' is ? I heard that it reaches 10cm long, but I have not seen such a larger one. Also I have never seen female specimen sold in Japan.

heuerfan,
In temminckii if the pelvic fins are still shoter I suspect that it is a large female or a young male. Its body coloration makes me think it is a large female.

The second fish is C. punctatus; it has numerous fine dots on side and fins. I have not heard the name of "Yellow-streak", and it is a very variable species, so I do not like the naming.

Thank you Tanaka for the quick reply and ID!

Is it possible that my Lineatus killed the Temminckii? I did not see any torn fins or body damage so i am assuming it was a bad fish to begin with. Although physically the fish looked great as you saw in the pic.

Just concerned before i release the two fairys in the tank.

Thanks,
Steven

The Debelius is only about 6-7 cm long. I only paid $28 us dollars for him do you guys think this is a fair price???

How long is the C.lineatus in the tank?
Did you see him attacking other fish in the past?

Lineatus has been in the tank for 2 months, he was getting picked on by a powder blue tang. I took out the powder blue out temporarily to let the Lineatus settle in. The Lineatus has not attacked any of the other fish, flasher wrasse, anthias. But i have seen him flare at the male anthias.

Before i placed the Temminckii in the tank, i placed him in a container so the Lineatus could see it. Did not see any aggression towards the Temminckii. Accidently let the Temminckii out of the container and the Lineatus came up to it and just flared a bit, and the Temminckii went and hid. Next day still hiding but in a different spot, no damage to its body. Third day came home and it was dead on the sand bed :(

I just placed both new fairys in the tank but kept the lights off until i get home to monitor their behaviour.

blface,
It is cheap for C. adornatus; we pay some $50,- for each male at Japanese retailers, and thanks for the info of size. A friend in Thailand informed me that he has seen several males of just over 10 cm at a pet shop, but no great difference between males he saw and we see.

Thanks for all of your help Mr. Tanaka or should I say doc. Looking forward to discussing these awesome fish w/ you again at a later date.

Mimicking ???

Mimicking ???

Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis, Goldback Fairy Wrasse. It is a 6cm long male.
It often forms an aggregation in its natural habitat, and when you look at them from dorsal side, they can be a school of Anthais spp.
How do you think ?

heuerfan,
The C.lineatus like other larger fairy wrasses can get agressive towards similar looking species, but FME, only after several months in the tank.
Placing the fish in a see through container helps to reduce aggression, I personaly prefer the platic nets and I attach styro. to it, to make them float, , I prefer this cause they have much more flow through them and I can get them in any size I like.
I cant say what really happened between your C.lineatus and C. teminckii , usually when you intro a new fairy wrasse, you have to keep a close eye on a fairy that is in your tank for a year +.
I wish you luck with your new C.teminckii.
