I got this guy a couple weeks ago and it was labled a solor wrasse..just wanting to know if this is what it is????

wrasseguy,
I cannot see the second picture shown with x this time. Show it again, please.

Quite interesting ! It seems a female but I could not identify it. A black body with pinkish abdomen makes me remember males of C. lunatus (var.) or C. brunneus, but its caudal fin is quite different from these; they have a deeply lunate tail.

Your specimen still has a dark spot on caudal peduncle so I call it a juvenile or female. Also the narrow stripe below eye is distinct.

I hope you to take more photos while it is spreading all the fins. Thank you for the picture ofgreat interest.

super male acclimation and QT

super male acclimation and QT

OK. I wanted to ask the wrasse experts where I went wrong. I got a lineatus SM along with a small female laboutei 10 days ago.

It was a transship from Hawaii. SM's bag ph was 7.2. I put a drop of Prime in for NH3 neutralizing then dripped until ph was 8.0. QT tank was 8.1. That took 6 hrs. I had mixed the SG in the QT to be the same as what the fish was shipped in; 1.016. The fish was very active in the bag and the fish were well packed.

Put them in a 30G QT. The media had been cycled already. I had zero NH4 spikes or NO2 show up. Fish ate like a pig. Swimming in the open mostly but was skittish and would hide in the pvc occasionally.

Yesterday I saw a single white spot on the SM. He was also breathing a bit rapidly and tended to stay in high turbulence areas. I did a 50% WC and added a little Copper Power in case I was getting an ich outbreak.

This morning he was out swimming. When I got home he had trouble staying upright and tended to roll over. He stayed at the bottom. He is now in his last breaths lying on the bottom. All through this the female is fine and shows absolutely no signs of distress.

Is this just the case of SM not shipping well? I followed the shippers instructions well. In our buy all the SM have died(a Scott's just up and died overnight) and all but one of the lineatus males. Mine was the only lineatus SM. I have not lost a fairy or flasher in qt before so I'm at a loss. The other types of fish in our buy seem to be doing fine.

Thanks for any help.

i noticed this morning that the two lines have turned nice and black and have got alot more noticable....i think it is pretty cool to wacth and can't wait for for it to be a male...i had a lubbocki once but it jumped out on me and i had moved on to fairy and flashers that were a little more rare than these..but a lubbocki i one of my fav.

i will get more pisc later when i get home but it was really purple and blue this morning and the two lines are black now..it is really strange to see this but very cool also

its probably been posted in one of these posts here but i have a question about which are the most peaceful of the fairy wrasses. I lost my scotts, rose scale and candy hog over a 4 month span after I introduced a solor wrasse. If I don't get him out of the tank soon I'm sure my yellow fin will be gone too, although he has been holding up well being the sole wrasse left to take all the punishment.

I am sad to say my c. balteatus has died...have no reason why but hey that happens sometimes...i did replace it with a nice scott's fairy and it is already eating and swiming well...the lfs has had him for 3 weeks now and is very healthy..so hopefully he will be ok....i got some new pics and will post later of the lubbock's wrasse the color change it has gone through is really neat

The wrasse pictured below was sold to me as a Ruby Head Wrasse (C. Cyanopleura), but after seeing this page:

http://www.meerwasser-lexikon.de/eng/29/220/Cirrhilabrus/solorensis.htm

and some of the pics in this thread, I am now starting to believe this may actually be a female solorensis, which is strange because this fish attacked and killed my male solarensis that was about the same size as "her" about three weeks ago. Right now the "Ruby head" is in my sump, and I have a new male solorensis that I picked up last night from the LFS.

First off, does anyone think that this is truly a female solorensis (from the blurry picture, which is the best shot I have of this fish), and second, should I take the chance of trying to re-introduce this fish to the display with my new male solorensis? The new male is about 1.5 inches larger than this fish.

I'm tempted to take another shot at keeping this fish with a male solorensis, but I'd like to get some other opinions first....

Hi,

your female seemed an aggressive toward your male of solorensis. Females often exceed 10 cm long and will be larger than males in this species.

I think your female was introduced earlier than the male, and when you add a new male pick up all the specimens before introducing if possible. But the new one would probably do well together with the female if the tank is large enough and well decorated with many hiding places. Good Luck !

thought i would post these :)

they join the smae 29 gallon QT with 2 female flame wrasse and a pair of helfrich. (also female rhomboid)

oh, btw.. the mirror technique works on my Balteatus.. goes nuts when he sees himself.. the orange on his shoulder gets really bright and he gets really dark overall...

I know, crappy pic but you get the idea..

yeah there is a pair of rhomboids. I actually think the female is a submale, but there is no fighitng between them.

the balteatus is a full male. Very solid orange bar and some nice fins. He tries to pick on the male rhomboid and flares up crazy! Very nice.

:)

moving fairies?

moving fairies?

im moving to a larger tank soon and have been told that a lot of fairies have major issues with moving. has anybody experienced this? if so what suggestions do you have to ease the stress. i have a pintail wrasse that i really dont want to lose along with a pair of roseafacias.

i never considered this to be a threat with these fish and am now petrified. have i been told wrong.
