Lunner, those are some beautiful pix, what kind of wrasse is this one?

Lunner,
Great collection. Very nice. You have to give me more imfo on the Scott's Fairy Wrasse? How big is yours (how has he grown)? How long have you had it? I also want to know about it behavior. I love those fish. Do you know where's yours originates from? How has the color held up if you have had it for an extended period? What do you feed yours? I know I'm throwing alot at you. But these are gorgeous (and pricey) fish. Does yours flash at all?

Thanks for all the help and pictures. Send more. I can't believe you got those pictures off the phone.

That is a Hawaiian Flame Fairy Wrasse
Thank you, that thing is awesome.

Well I'm super excited, tonight, I finally jumped (no pun intended) into the world of Fairy wrasses. Tonight I bought an exquisite wrasse that's about 3 inches long. He's got great coloration, ate like he was storing food for the winter at my LFS and has a little white spot on his nose that I believe is a scar from either from a lip lock or from rubbing his nose against a rock when going to sleep. Looks exactly like this one

The other Fairy Wrasse I got is a Laboutei. He's barely bigger than the Exquisite but also seems to be a bit more docile. However he's actually buddied up with the exquisite and shares the same cave when they retreat. The colors on this fish are outrageous. The one I got had a little more blue on the underside of his body which I found to be a litle more attractive than others I've seen in person. His yellow stripe is also very vibrant. I'll take pix as soon as I can. He looks similar to the one below, only the one I got, his yellow line is more distinct and he's got a little more blue on the bottom of his body, also he's not as purple, he has a little more of a blue hue to his purple.

These were the final two fish that I plan on putting into my aquarium for quite a while, now I'll focus mainly on corals when adding to my tank. As you can imagine, my Carpenters Flasher is ****ED OFF. He's flashing left and right at these guys, tried to chase the Exquisite but he didn't do much and ended up going into the rocks leaving my Exquisite to explore. I also got a blue streaked cleaner wrasse to aid incase stress brings any parasites out of the fish in my tank. I let my friend take my digital camera to Hawaii last week, but she gets home tomorrow, so hopefully I'll post some pix of these guys over the weekend.

Thanks guys.

There are 3 Scott's. One pair of Australia, along with a Tonga (may be Fiji since Tonga is very close to Fiji...) Scott's. The males are about 3 1/2" and the female around 3". The males didn't really get along the 1st day. Flashing and chasing each other around. I knew it will be a gamble putting 2 males in one tank... but they are doing fine now. Not that I am suggesting putting Males together or even that the six-line should be in there with them... I guess there is always a few exception to how these wrasses behave. The scott's tend to stay in the upper halves of the tank but do venture around the rest of the tank.

All my wrasses will eat frozen mysis, formula 1/2 pellets, frozen Cyclop-eeze and chopped seafoods(squid, scallops, shrimp). 3 small meals a day: Auto feeder formula 1/2 twice a day, and frozen food once a day.

Overall, I am very happy with these fishes. They always distract me from the TV during dinner. :)

Scottkelly,
What are you doing right? Great wrasses, colors sound awesome and a friend coming back from Hawaii. I visit San Diego (from chilly Pennsylvania) every year, but living in Venice Beach has to be it. (tell What About Brian and group I said hello) We'll wait for pictures on the fish, bit colors sound great. Congrats.

I get excited to see all your wrasses! LOL
Well I added my Scott's after 12 days of quarantine. He was very shy during quarantine ( I got him when he first came into the LFS and captivity was new to him) After about 5 days of hiding he decided to come out and try eating. He loves brine but isn't too crazy about mysis, chopped clam or shrimp yet. So far no interaction with my solar, exqusite or lubbock's. I had a whipfin in there but have removed him and put him in a 20 for awhile, he was a little bit chasy. I'll add him last. Anyways, here's a pic of Scotty peeking out. He's promised me a full body shot in a few weeks!

Beautiful Scott's Fairy Lynn53 !

Are any of your Fairy Wrasses eating Nori ? My Red Margin Wrasse will eat it out of my hand, as well as anything else I feed !

New to Fairy Wrasses. I currently have a Lineatus and a Labouti that i got from LFS. Ordered on-line and waiting for Pink Margin, Scotts-Cook Island and male & female Blue Star leopards. Any suggestions on acclimation would be welcomed. My first time ordering on-line. I do have 24 gal QT set up. Also, debating on a female lineatus and supermale rhomboid. I've been told any female fairy will make Fairy males flash and debating to swallow cost for rhomboid. Any insight on compatibilty or any other information on Fairy wrasses would be helpful. Thanks!

I have paired up my labouti and lineatus. Haven't found a girl for my rhomboid. I say go for the rhomboid; especially if you can find a SM. One key is to mix sizes, colors and shapes. My rhomboid is smaller than my lineatus SM so the lineatus leaves him alone . Some of the others you have ordered like the Scott's may be more aggressive. A bit earlier in this thread there was a listing by aggressiveness.

acclimate them slowly. Check PHs and do a slow drip until they equalize. A 24 is fine for a few fairies as a QT. i had 6 in a 29 with a pair of helfrich, but i did daily waterchanges with NSW. Keep water quality excellent as they tend to get pop eye when the water gets dirty or high in nitrates.

Good luck finding a supermale rhomboid. I would say only 1 or 2 actual terminal male rhomboids are collected a year. I've only personally seen 1 terminal male, and i've seen my fair share. A 4" male might be easier to get then a supermale, but even that is few and far between.

Males dont care about females being added in regards to aggression. They will definitely flash and display though. I've noticed that male fairies usually like to flash at other male fairies not necessarily the females in the tank or being added. :)

Thanks guys!
Here's my problem now. I've added that Scott's to my tank that already has the exquisite, lubbock, solar. These have only been in the tank for a short while themselves. I had the whipfin in and he was chasing the exquisite so I removed him and with in a day the exquisite was out and about. Now a few days later I add the Scotts and the exquisite is NOT letting him come out and makes a dive for him everytime he shows his face. The Scott's is a bit bigger then the exquisite by about 20% so I thought I'd be okay...especially since they are usually more aggressive. That was the reason I held back on putting the Scotts in last. I added my "mirror" yesterday and that has the exquisite occupied for a while ....hopefully taking his mind off the Scott's. How long can I leave this type of behavior ? or should I be actively trying to catch the exquisite? (he is extremely fast) thanks
(I have another 180 reeftank he can go in...but the sides only go up about 6 inches, and the top can not be covered?)
thanks
