Hello,
I think this is a juvenile Balteatus but I don't really know it was sold to me as a generic Red Fairy wrasse so I can't complain about the costs. Sorry but these are the best I could get.

looks to be a female balteatus. I had a few that looked like that. Looks like it may start to get the orange bar as well! Does it display at all?

I hit the jackpot. Thanks to a good close friend, I now have 4 new fairy wrasses . Lineatus-supermale, Puntatus -supermale, Rhomboid-male and a Balteatus-male. They are the most clorful fish I have owned. I can't beleive the color in my tank now.
I also reveived a psych red tailed tamarin-male , but he has gone underground for now.
I want to get better pictures later, but for now , here are a couple.

bradleyj, nice lineatus and rhomboid. I just ordered my rhomboid tonight. Just curious on how many fish you have in your 65. Currently in my 120 I have a naso, copperband butterfly, yellow head jawfish, bluespot jawfish, 4 barletts, 1 bi-color barlett, lineatus, labouti, yellow coris, an 1 chromi. This week i'll be getting a pink margin, scotts-cooks, 2 blue star leopards and a rhomboid. If all make it thru qt I'm worried that I might have to many fish.

I have 12 fish in my 65g, and now have 27 fish in my 225g. I do weekly waterchanges and have very good protein skimmers on both systems , along with running ozone on both and uv on my 225g. So far I haven't had any problems, I have never had any ich in my big tank and I had ich in my 65g about 3 years ago. I've been lucky, I guess.

I just started a refugium. I do have a chiller. Ick hasn't been a problem only on my powder brown who is in my 24 gal. I do 15% bi-monthly water changes and very good protien skimmer. My concern is that i might have to many fish. What's your opinion?

My opinion is that you will be fine, I've always had alot of fish in my tanks. Just a little more maintenance.

Lynn53: Is that a picture of your exquisite? It is really nice. I know they can have a red face, but that is the perfect color IMO. Just what I am looking for. But I know you can't quarantee fish color.

Bronco777: Thanks for the ID.

BradleyJ; Your tank is great, Very impressed. (not that you need my approval) Love the wrasses. The lineatus of spectacular. Love the full tank photo with the Hippo. Wow!

Neptuneofsc: Would love to see apicture of the Scott's-Cook. Would love to see it arrives arrival.

Thanks to all.

Lynn53 & Curtis1158,

Exquisite fairy wrasses are basically broken into two types:

You have the standard Exquisite that hails from the waters of the Indian ocean east to Sumatra including the maldives and South Africa.

Then you have the Pacific Exquisite that hail from the Philliines o Indonesia, Australia, Fiji, Vanautu and Japan.

What's the difference? well to simplify things even though there are slight variations.

A regular Exquisite has the bright red face/head.....the Pacific Exquisite does not. The pacific will tend to have a green face but his dorsal fin will have red or yellow colorations. Therefore I'd consider Lynn53's fish to be a Pacific variation.

Here's some picture to consider:

Here's my old Indian Ocean Exquisite:

Here's a new Pacific version I just obtained. This is from the Vanuatu:

Okay, that's better. Notice the red face on the Indian Ocean Exquisite.

Now here are some additional pictures of the Vanautu version ( Pacific )

Hiroyuki, if you're out there, here's an update on my Johnsoni Fairy.

If you remember, I got this little guy a while back. I thought it was a female......

Finally....sorry about all the error posts. Here's that same little Johnsoni all grown up and flashing up a storm against a Potters he doesn't like very much
