Ok guys the fish that i got at my store that were labeled red fairy wrasse were 2 conde's a male and a female..really cool fish lots of color in the male i will post the pics of them soon...

Ah,
Nice to see fellow michiganders in here. Guys, im debating what to do for my tank. As of now i still only have my female Solor in the tank. I find it odd however that she hasn't changed to a male yet in the 4 months that i've had her alone in the tank. Any thoughts on that? Now, my debate is do i put in another female solor and allow one of them to change to a male, do i buy a male solor, or should i leave my female solor in the tank and buy a pair of a diff species? If i go with the pair of solors, i'd still like to put a male of a diff species in. Suggestions? I was thinking about maybe a Lubboks?

On a side note, wish me luck as i think im going to finally get my first coral tomorrow. Yet i still don't know what to buy. It has been a long and very educational 10 months to convert to a sutiable reef setup, and has been a true test of patience for me. However, I'm releived to know that i am fully ready and capable of now keeping a reef. So wish me luck.

coreno16- My solar wrasse male changed to a female after time. You need a female to have it keep it's true male colors over a long period of time. It jumped out of my tank awhile ago which in a strange way made me happy. It was the meanest wrasse I've ever owned. I would think you would have an aggression problem if you added another fairy to your 45 gallon tank. I hope it's covered if you do.

Hmmm,
That's an interesting thought. Now im really stumped. I could remove the female and buy a pair of something else possibly. I wouldn't mind any suggestions on a new pair. I think my lfs might have a female balteatus that they don't know about. Can someone post some pics of the Female Balteatus? Would that be a good fish to pick up? Then i could get a pair of Labboks to add with the Balteatus. Im open for thoughts and recommendations.

any fairy bigger then the solar will be perfectly fine. I added a trio of mccoskers to my 180 with an already established flame pair and lineatus pair. the only one that gave them trouble was my female lineatus (she didn't like the small female mccosker...) All is well now :)

use the floating clear cup routine and you wont have anything to worry about.

I tried the floating breeder cup with my last wrasse and ended up killing him. It was a Carpenters. The cup bobbed and spun etc so much in my flow the poor fish was stressed terribly. After about 10 min of trying to find a calm spot I gave up and just released the fish. Lights were out and all the other fish were asleep. The fish just floated down, then weakly swam to the corner. I came back an hour later to check and the scavengers had already eaten half the body.

you have to attach it to the glass, not let it float around.

Philwd i tried PMing u but your box was full.
ill try again if i can remember what i typed :)

Can someone please give me an idea what is going on with my new fairy. I have had him for a few days now in the main tank and he hides all day. When it is time to eat he does eat but goes right back to his spot and dosen't move much but time to time is out and about. I had to take my whipfin and move him because the other guy was getting his *** kicked. Is he not moving as much because of the fighting or is he sick? i just don't know but i as hoping someone might be able to get me some info. He looks healthy and eats alot..i guess he could be just getting use to the new tank..i hope. Ihave never seen any of my other flashers or fairy wrasse do this before. thanx for any info...i will post a pic soon if i can ever get the guy to come out...

should be fine. If he was getting beat up then that explains the hiding... Since you removed the whipfin he has started coming out?

If he eats a lot. i wouldn't worry at all, and after a week or so reintroduce the whipfin

Yes he comes out 1 or 2 times a day...he does stay in the same hiding spot..i lookes at his body and he looks ok no battle scars...and he does eat and will come out when the female is around i was thinking it was because he was getting beat up but just didn't know....thanks for the reply zemuron114

p.s. i was hoping to look into getting a flame..i hear that they flames are some of the worst shippers out of the fairy wrasse is this true???

well guys the fiary did not make it i found him dead a few minutes ago...but that seems to happen time to time...i am going to get me a new one today...i am thinking the scotts...but the store is going to replace the guy for me also so hopefully the next will be better..the female seems to be doing just fine

i havn't been able to find a pic of a female balteatus. If i ever get one in, ill take a pic for you :)

flame ship well, its acclimation that they dont like. Females do great through everything, its the males that might crap out unexpectedly... it sad, they are my favorite fairy :( QT with prazi pro is what i gathered from talking to various people. I've had mine for almost a year (about 9 months now) and he rocks! him and his woman own my 180 gallon. the male doesn't take crap from anyone!!
