Does anyone own one of these, do they keep their colors without females? Cirrhilabrus punctatus (Finespot Fairy wrasse)

Buddyboy,
A bluesided should do fine in that size tank. Just make sure it has a good amount of swimming room and places to hide. I think most fairys stay 3.5 inches or smaller.

How about bioload? Would this fairy wrasse be a big pooper? Increase the bioload enormously?

well the exqusite is still doing ok but hasn't ate much but is very actvie..but dosn't come out in the open much yet....he is starting to try too and i hope to get that pic soon...i took my whipfin back in to trade had a friend that wanted him...he was just way too mean to any of my fis hhe chased down everything

Bioload increase should be similar to a typical fish addition. You should feed them once a day, and if possible maybe twice but its not 100% nescessary. What other fish would you be adding it along with?

Thanks so much for the information Cory! I have decided to pass on the Blue Sided Fairy wrasse. Maybe a bit too big for my tank and from browsing through this thread, there are much more colorful, interesting options available. Maybe i'll hold out for a pair of flasher wrasses. Are a pair of flasher wrasses hard to obtain?

heuerfan, nice find! I just got in some supermales from australia.. they are soooo brightly colored. The fins are metalic pink/blue and purple, and the tail is bright yellow. Its a beautiful fish. I believe they will lose some color if no females are present, but a male like yours should keep most of it.

where is yours from? They are coming from Fiji as well. I was told the aussie ones are 10x better looking but i have never seen a Fiji one..

me to! lol I will try to get one. Maybe tomorrow since i have some time they are in a vat so i can only see it looking down, but ill put it in a specimen cup.

Thanks for the info, i was considering getting one but like you mentioned found out they do lose color.

Do you guys know why some wrasses just waste away. I have lost a few to this. They eat like crazy look good for a couple of months and just start loosing weight. I have lost a lineatus, flame and now my condei(is doing the same thing) over a period of about a year. My hooded, balteatus, scots and adornatus are all doing great. I feed a couple of times a day different food, mysis and flakes. It just saddens me to see these fish just waste away. Why would some thrive and some not.

If you want small fairy's you could look at C. Lubbucks which i beleive stays the smallest of all the fairys. (size anyone?) Flashers are also a great option for a smaller tank and are not to difficult to find (around my area anyways). I'm sure someone in the flasher wrasse thread titled "Let Them Flash" stickied at the top of this forum can point you in the right direction.

The females of C. solorensis; 11cm, 8cm and 4cm long. Males are often smaller than females in this species.
