Fake Anemones

This might sound stupid, but has anyone though about using something like this as a fake anemone for clown fish ? I have two clownfish and I do not want to keep an anemome as my lighting and tank size could not accomidate one. I looked at the artificial ones actually made for aquariums and they look terrible, but the items below look and feel natural (minus the color). Obviosuly I would want something that doesn't look too artificial.

I figure you could cut them in half and weigh them down or squeeze them between rocks. A white color would obviously look better.

I was wondering the same thing for the growout tanks for baby clowns. I was thinking the kids pufferball, it looks like the ones posted but are made for kids and are not toxic.

What would be bad about them. I am soaking them in salt water right now to see if it has any affect on them.(not in an actual tank with live stock).

Does anybody know what might leech out that would be bad?

not a bad idea at all. As long as they are aesthetically pleasing to you go for it.

+1

Absolute worst case is you might not like it and will have wasted a few bucks. For this hobby, that's not a bad downside.

Lori, would be interested to know how the Juvi's take to these! I have been thinking of something simular for my broodstock pairs. Clowns are MUCH happier when hosting a nem (especialy wild caught ones), this can only help when breeding.

Any word? About 5 months ago I picked some neat rubber things like the above up at the dollar store. Still have them, and am soaking one in water right now. The only iffy thing about them is the smell when they are new - not sure if this is a bad thing or what.

They are just like that picture, but have much longer tentacles and came with a blinky thing inside.

Oh the blinky thing in the middle just pops right out. I put it in the tank... but think it will be coming out. Compared to real corals it looks like... skimmer discharge.
