False perc getting ready to lay eggs?

I have a false perc pair I've had them for maybe 5 months or so.. They host my green shrooms even though they have a perfectly good RBTA anyway today the female was sucking on the shrooms, and frantically rubbing on the shrooms.. She also appeared very plump.. the male was also hanging out in the shrooms more then usual they usually just sleep in it and rub in them every once in a while today they were in them constantly.. they'd also go above them and do this shaky thing at eachother.. They also looked like they were cleaning up a rock which is right by their shrooms.. Is it possible they are getting ready to lay eggs? They seem like they'd be to young but I dont know much about it all.. I know that the eggs wont hatch or survive but it will still be cool seeing them try.. Anyway any info would be great.

I have almost the same exact situation. Mine are hosting in my blue shrooms. I saw them cleaning next to the rock and added a small piece of tile for them to spawn on. They clean it every now and then and are very territorial. They have never layed any eggs though. I would get a piece of tile so they can spawn on it and you can remove and try to hatch them if you want. There are many factors that can determine if they will actually spawn or not. It can take years for some to actually lay eggs, or my understanding is maybe never. Look in the breeding forum, there is a lot of good info there.

it certainly could be pre-spawning activity. The eggs will certainly survive and hatch. The baby will be quite a challenge though. :D

If you are interested in ever raising the fry pick up a cop of Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfishes" it has everything the hobbyist needs to raise baby clowns.
