False Perc Sick W/ Pics. Please Help!

Here is my juvenile false perc. He/She/It has been very healthy however about 2 days ago parts of her white stripes became a gray mottled colour (only in a few patches).

I woke this morning to the clown more or less covered in a white film like substance.

It may be Ich as there are a few spots, however the most concerning part is this white film.

I feed pellets as well as frozen brine and fish eggs once or twice a week (not nearly enough).

The clown has been searching for something to host. It has taken to a mushroom, however at night the mushroom shrivels away, perhaps the clown tried for my frogspawn?

Thanks for any help :)

Cheers

some of the white film is dirt on the glass (hard to clean spot of tank) yet you can see what I mean, especially on her tail.

She appeared to be uninterested in eating this morning also.

I would treat her for brooklynella ... yesterday. It is possible that is it a reaction to hosting in those button polyps, but I would not take that chance considering it is a clownfish. The most effective treatment is a series of formalin dips.

Thanks for the advice.

It does look like brooklynella.

I'm setting up a QT now.

While I do that, is there a preferred produc to use in the water?

Or any other first hand tips.. thanks.

I hope it isn't too late.

look back throught terrys posts he uses 37% formalin.

not sure of the product.

dips every third day for 3 dips.

look in the library of www.marineaquariumadvice.com

it has some articles on this.

terry usually recommends hypo as well as this helps the fish.

Thanks.

I probably should have read more and asked less. No need to cloud up the forums with the same ol' questions.

that is what we are here for good luck with the fish.

Well I opted to skip QT, my LFS talked me out of it...

I dosed the tank with a small amount of a product that claims to be totally "organic" and harmless to corals etc. We'll see..

It's a small tank, so I'm alright with messing around with it a little bit.

Anyways - the clown looks substantially better today. She is more active, eating properly and has lost about 80-90% of the cloudy look she had yesterday.

This may be a function of a few things, most likely is that the bacterial bloom has receeded to the point where it is no longer visible on the surface -so I'm guessing. I'll continue to follow the treatment I'm on. If I feel it's not working a QT will be set up..

I may make one now just for the future anyways.

Thanks again for the help.

I am also wondering what treatment you are using because formalin dips are about the only thing that works for brooklnella.
