Family of clowns?

I'm curious to know if I could get a small family of tank bred false percs to live in my blue carpet. I've only had a pair but wonder if it would be safe to get a small family? If so, how many would be good? Thanks.

The only other fish in the 90 is a yellow tang, 6 line, yellow tail damsel.

It's been answered many times over on here (perhaps some can make a sticky about "how many clowns"). Rule of thumb is: One pair of clowns per tank. There are of course exceptions, but also generally: "if you are asking, stick with the rule of thumb".

I started out with 18 clowns in a 220, I now have 3. They have done each other in throughout the past couple of years. It is now a mated pair and they for some reason allow the single to stay around. That's my experience.

So from that I take that three is the magic number? I've seen lots of trios before, but never anything over that.

No, not necessarily....I would go with 2 and be done with it. No need in taking a chance on the 3rd being killed. I only have 3 in there now, because I can't catch the "outsider"

I DEFINITELY would NOT say three is a magic number. You've seen lots of reports of trios, because it is somewhat rare and people like to report odd things. Within LONG-TERM (multi-year) spawning clownfish, a trio is even a rarity.

They are onyx clowns, from Booyah's Onyx in Algonquin, IL. In that picture they are about 2.5 years old, but they had significant amounts of black at only about 9 months.
