my faiso experiment was like i was a bother to him since i wasn't in his click of customers. Probally should realize his click of people are the ones getting out of the hobby so may be when a new person walks in my treat them like they have money to spend also. Just my 3 experiences there.

john is a shy man, it will take a while for him to warm up to you. but after a while he will be whispering sweet nothings in your ear. :inlove:
 
A few people huh? lol check any old threads about faois You will see that everytime someone says something about the store every FANBOY says it must was you... Wow really?? He's supposed to be Aquaman & everytime he only comes on here is when someone says something about his shop. How about when people need help about dying coral or sick fish, he should chime in every now & then. Not because you are a customer to his store.:beer: We al;l know that its a circle of you guys on this forum. Do what you like I really don't care... I started to go to stores now because you guys always say I'll pick & choose who I sell my coral or fish to. I use to have fun before, but now I just go elsewhere. NOW TELL ME TO GO TO MY ROCK IN HIDE UNDER IT, WHERE I COME FROM!!!! :lol:It's all good!!!! Happy day!!!!! JOOOOOOYYYYY

We are lucky that we actually have several really great stores in our area and we all have a choice of where we choose to spend our money.

My choice is FAOIS. You can choose whoever you like, but there is absolutely no reason to be hostile toward John or his shop. If you feel like they did you wrong, please post your experience.

I've never had good customer service there. Went at least five different times, but all of them must have been off days.

Specifically, they seemed annoyed about my questions and even replied to in a way that suggested I was an idiot.

Here is an example from my last visit there, over six months ago:

Me: "how much are those acans? "

Faois : "25 and 35". ( not telling me which were 25 or 35)

...after looking a few more minutes..

Me: "ok how much is that bright red one on the small frag tile?"

Faois: "sigh, they're 25 and 35" in a snotty tone

Me: " ok, so, how much is THAT one?"

Faois: " All the ones on the small tiles are 25, ALL the ones on the large tiles are 35." (In a very condescending tone)

Me: " ok, I'll take that one"

Faois: "Which one?"


The person helping me acted like I was an idiot and I should have inherently known the smaller frags were cheaper. Looking at the acans in stock that day, every one on a large tile was blah and the smaller ones had nice color. And we all know when it comes to corals its not size that always sets the price, more often its the colors. So I didn't know which were 25 or 35. I also don't think I should have been treated like an idiot for wanting to know the price.

Then the kicker in the end that the employee had never even glanced over to see which coral I was talking about in the first place. That was great.

It's like this every time I go there. So I don't go there any more.

wow, that really sucks :( This is the proper way to express bad experiences with FAOIS. Good explaination and of how you felt. :) It's unfortunate that you had such an experience and i respect your decision. We all have our favorite LFSs. And there ain't nothing wrong with that.

When i first started shopping there, i thought the list in the back was a major PITA too, but never felt like i was botherin them. could be because they weren't busy?

First of all why would you wait six months to make a post, that is just weird to me but more so what I want to know is why there are not any other threads out there talking crap about the other shops? I personally have been to other stores in the area that are crappy and never hear anything about them. Someone is always posting about FAOIS, but once they start the thread they don't make other comments. Tell him so he can fix the problems. Also a lot of the times he is sick and tired of telling people things to help them and then they just turn around and do the opposite, Trust me I went through that when I first was setting up my tank. After John realized that I actually listened and took his advice he knew I was not just wasting his time like many others have. I have been in there so many different times and just listened to some of the people ask him questions and he answers them and gives them his opinion, and when it's not what the customers want to hear and they get upset at him. In the end he is helping you out. I feel John knows what the heck he is doing and he had never made me feel like it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! He would rather tell you to do the right, and not buy something then have you waste your money on something that you do not needed. The sad thing is nobody understands that nor appreciates it. There is a reason why John has a "following" it's because he cares and is willing to do almost anything to help you out, and his "followers" understand that. That's my 2 cents for what they are worth. :headwally:

It sounds to me like m&m is trolling to start trouble. Let's here about all the other LFS, I can guarantee you that you will hear a tremendous amount of negative feedback from everyone. I personally do not shop at the other LFS because of negative experiences.

I started my first tank through marine warehouse, and now I realize that they do not know anything about saltwater fish. I was actually told by a employee that is still there and has been for years, that after you add live rock and live sand you can stock a tank. He stated that cycling a tank is only for dead rock and dead sand. I have been to coral corral and had to wait 20 minutes because they had one employee working on a Saturday.

As Nate said, John has a following because he is one of the best. He cares about your tank and not your feelings. If you want to put a tang in a 20 gallon tank, he is going to tell you what you don't want to hear. Try that at Marine Warehouse, they will try and sell you two for your 20 gallon.

Every fish store has people that do not like them, but John is the only one that will answer your emails and questions after hours. He has done more for this hobby in this area than anyone else, hands down.

I can tell you that if you had a serious problem and emailed John he would answer you when he gets it, not during business hours only.

If you don't believe me take a poll on the forum about how many people John has spent numerous hours helping whether it be on the phone, in person, or at your house.

Until you are going to take the time to criticize all LFS in the area, hold your tongue. Try an experiment, email all the LFS in the area and tell them you have a problem, after hours, and see who the first is to respond or respond at all. I bet I can tell you who will respond.

First off, they're 20 and 30 :) pretty sure they have always been that way... sometimes 20 for any of them- I think they should do that again.

And did you let them finish telling you the prices before you asked prices on multiple items at the same time?
 
It is because of John , and the helpful staff @ FAOIS , I still get so much enjoyment out of this hobby . I drive over an hour to shop there ,and pass a lot of fish stores on the way . I have been in a lot of other LFSs,but didn't like what I saw , or the people there , so I don't go there . If some one on here raves about one of them , that is fine with me . I don't say anything , I just don't shop there .

That'd exactly what I was thinking,what's funniest is that this is the highest traffic thread on the local board in months and it's over this crap.
I can't believe that John would ALLOW ANY employee treat a customer in that tone.I can tell you first hand because I DID work for John for a while on Saturday's and he drives a tight ship.I have never seen nor treated any customer that way and can't believe that it happened.bottom line this whole thread is a joke,it's basically another waste of space on an otherwise good forum.if you dont like the way you were treated then shop elsewhere.no one has a gun to your head :uzi:
 
I know im late to the party, but I went to FAOIS looking for NPS. Found some metal halides for my other tank. John gave me a used reflector for free and even helped me wire the setup. If thats not good service then I dont know what is. Plus they have the best prices around on livestock
 
people thank if he doesnt say hi to everyone that he is being an a**h***

what they dont account for is he is the OWNER there is alot more hassle to keep everything healthy, employees paid, dry goods, fish, and so on that he doesnt always have time or patience to talk to everyone but if you ask he WILL help you or listen to your concerns about what goes on in his store....

just ask any OWNER how much is on there plate...
if you have the will power to ask youll find out he really does care about everyones visit to FAIOS

if you dont tell what went wrong HOW CAN HE FIX THE PROBLEM !!!!!!!

There are very few business's that the owner is involved with day to day operations like him. most are hidden in an office or not even there.....

that is why there is a large supply of "fanboys"

snow i was wondering the same thing, im just getting back into things and created a new rc profile. I was very shocked about thier place also seemed like they had a lot less stuff in the store and not as much corals as i remember. now this maybe bc ive been outta the hobby for a few years and stores have just down sized but i was amazed that their was a couch in the store where the awesome nano display tank used to be. customer service was dead on though they wouldnt leave me alone which is good.
 
like i said i created a new profile bc i have deleted all of my past stuff bc of a divorce so sorry this was the first post i read
