FAU reef club and tank?

I talked to a couple guys at the meeting about setting up a reef tank at FAU, perhaps even a sub-chapter of the club there. I used to belong to the UNF bio-reef engineering club in jax before i moved we had 3 big displays in the library, science office and presidents office. Its a great way to increase visibility for the club and generate interest. If not fau then other schools perhaps but any student can go to student government and ask for the money to set it up, all we would need is some volunteer time to set this stuff up! Let me know if anyone is interested in working on this idea with me.

I think it's great that you are thinking about how to expose the club to others! Saying that, the club (BOD and myself) is not interesting in starting any sub chapters. Before you advance the idea of starting any tanks at other locations in the club's name please speak to me and/or the BOD first. Thanks!

lol sorry i need to add if you don't live in brower you don't get to have a club Miami people can't have a sub chapter

btw

the fmas don't want to even know or think about doing something any day in the Miami area i have to say people from miami can drive to brower to the meetings but the fmas is to good to host at least 1 meeting in a park close to some reefers from Miami what a shame

i am sorry ones more so is not a club is chris and bod no one ells have a voise in this

ups this is going to be one of those post

I think we had this discussion about a year ago, we have a great club it takes a lot of effort to make it to the meetings from Miami but it is worth it, last meeting one wrong turn and I got lost arrived an hour late but if I had to do it again next week I would in a heartbeat. It is flattering to hear about subchapters it tells me that the club is doing something wright and is on demand but right now might not be the time, we are free to voice our opinion but the best thing we can do is participate, volunteer to help, get to know the members and maybe get on the board, there is a lot of work just in what we have now.

i agree, if you are really interested in the club drive to broward. it is worth it, you meet some great people and i personally have been absorbing information from everyone and learned far more than i ever could from books or rc.

Guys, if any of you have an idea you would like the board to hear you are all invitef to come to the board meeting on February 5th. Please pm, email, or call me (305-773-9295) if you are interested. Everyone in the club has a voice.

Manny,

You are wrong about not having a say. Yes, the BOD has final say. There have been meetings in miami before and not a lot of miami people attended, they tried alternating between dade and broward, that did not work. The club has found a home at the school and it is hard to find a good centrally located place.

I really don't understand about the subchapter thing. You would still have to come up to broward for a board meeting which you don't want to do. Just come up become part of the group again, volunteer and change things if you want. I myself will welcome any and everybody that wants to come.

Where should the club host a meeting in Dade? Are you offering? I do believe there is already a plan to have another meeting down that way soon.

AND, by the way, these are my own thoughts on the subject. I am not a board member. I just volunteer my time for a good cause. You would be surprised how much work all the board members put into this.

Ryan, Your intentions of exposing the club name to gain interest are well appreciated and will be considered, however, from our own school tank experience I will tell you that it is very easy to put a tank together but very hard to keep up with its maintenance, currently the school tank is solely maintained by Chris Little and a few more BOD volunteers, and trust me it takes a lot of effort and man hours to go there after a long day of work to do the regular maitenance, water changes and so on. Remember this tank has our name on it and it must look good at all times.

As you may have seen the tank is not looking good now and we should all focus our efforts to ensure this tank is looking great before we even considered any other projects.

On a personal note I would also like to help you set up anything you like on our own time, you can count with my help too.

With that said, We really like the positive energy you bring and the good intentions and would be delighted to hear more of your ideas, we will be meeting on Feb 5th at Joes house for the Feb BOD meeting, you are welcome to come and share this meeting with us.

Well said Rogger. I want to add that Dean does much of the day to day maintenance on the tank also.

Just my thought and opinion....

I live in Miami, plus for the meetings I have to drive from Work which is in Kendall. But to be honest I don't mind the distance...because of what I have learned at these meetings.
I would like to see something in Miami, sure.
But right now I think it would be great to focus on the current Broward meetings...make the club stronger as one club, and not have 2 weak clubs.
In the last meeting alone there were so many new members or potential members, that the club has no where to go but up!!!!

i have a Q? now do the fams do recorst of the posible atemps to come to miami if yes when was the last time what year month and day please

btw

i will say somting after the answer is giving to me so i be able to be rigth (treeman)

thanks

manny

Manny, if you would like to discuss this you can come to any board meeting. Stop wining and come to a meeting every now and then.

here i go again Chris i am not wining about this i think i am the only one who say the tings how i feel and see just like i told roger yesterday there is lots of people who say wow the meeting was grate o i will go to the meetings any where and so ans so and behind your back at the store at the there houses any where they put the club down i am the only one who come here and say how i feel because i only have one face to show any one i am not a hypocrite i know you and lots of people from the fams and reef central and trust me i am not looking to harmed the club i told roger something yesterday on how i felt the few times i when to the meetings and he explaining to me some tings have change that's why i didn't like to go to the meeting is not because the driving i drive to west palm some time for work to new york just for fun and trust me i do take the drive to the meeting with no problem, now i about the meeting in Miami i am not saying to bring the meetings to Miami just to try to come around any area in Miami like a park for a picnic or something like that it don't have to be a meeting like some of you saying the club try (treeman) how long ago was that, that's why i ask if you guys hold records of those a days i fallow this club for tow years already and have not see yet one of those attempts to pass by Miami area i talk for what i see here on reef central (fams page ) and i have not come across one of those attempts

this is what i see this is how i feel and if any of you guys think i am wrong, wining, or trying to look for trouble saying what others don't have the cOcOs i do, i have nothing agents the club or any members in fact i am always around if some one needs my help i don't ask anyboddy are you a club member or not so don't get me wrong about this problem.

btw

i use spell check on this one lol and any one don't understand drop me a pm with the number ill call you and tell you because i do speak really good English

Manny, I don't think that it takes cocos to say anything online and it seems like you have meet a very small minority I hang out around the stores on Bird Road and have not hear anyone badmouthing the club on the contrary, I for one have seen a lot of your postings you seem to be a really nice guy willing to help others, crafty and full of great ideas, come to the meetings you will be surprised how many of us are looking forward to meeting you.

it is a shame that ryan's thread has gotten taken over by this. afterall he was trying to set up a school tank. I have a friend that runs a school tank and i do not try to get the fmas involved i just try to help when i can and give them the occasional frag.

lets get back to the point of helping out ryan not only spread out the word of fmas but of the reef hobby in general by starting a school tank.

Sorry guys ive been really busy recently and hadnt been online. Anyways I just want to point out that I intended on getting the money for this project from the student government not from FMAS. The reef tanks at UNF, my old school were financed by the student government there via the bio-reef engineering club (which i was active in for 3 years) on campus who put the parts together and maintained it (they were doing 8 different tanks on volunteer student effort). Since there is no club here I thought it would be a nice idea to form a club here myself in order to ensure that any tank started would not have to rely on FMAS to maintain it or myself when i graduate. On another point FAU has several campuses including downtown luaderdale, davie and dania sea tech. So this project doesnt need to be centered at boca i just have my classes there this semester. This is a project i was considering for the summer, not the immeadiate future. If distance is an issue for you, for instance you live in miami, then certainly this project may not be for you, and indeed perhaps the palm beach county club can have input on this, but like i said before this is contingent on having the extra time to commit to this project on my part and it would probably have to wait till summer anyways. In the mean time let me know if anyone from the club is interested in brainstorming with me or coming to ask student government for the money with me, as i would likely have to put together a itemized list of equipment and presentation on how the project would be benificial.
Best regards
Ryan
