Actually, that isn't the origional reply- Which said "are you refering to that one just pictured?" But Frakin' AOL booted me off. When I got back on later in the day, I forgot that part. Sorry about that.

Originally posted by stewart1019 just ordered my first favia piece. do they grow their own skeleton, or should I put the frag on a rock they can spread to?
Stewart and Sara, I'm pretty sure they grow their own skeleton (I think all LPS do), but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. That's not to say that they won't grow on to the rockwork if that's where they are though.
Do Favia's need strong lighting requirement and what's the best placement to position this particualr Coral? Do I need to feed every single mouths or do they 'spread out' the digested food throuhgout their internal system?
They do grow their own, but they can attach to/encrust LR too.
They are very tolerant of varios levels of light, & not particular. That is in general, individual types/species may have different requirements.
Be aware that they ARE aggressive too, very nice looking sweepers form at night!
Mine can REALLY "wig out" with sweepers if I put the Reef Plankton cube in the tank. But not always. I don't quite understand that. My Platygyra won't. However, I think that one is doomed & I"m facing the decision to discard it & get a less attractive one. But someone set it might cause my other corals to die.
(I'm also having another hostile Take-over bid from a Rhodactis & a hard coral. So much work, not enough tank time!)
i'm showing mine ... not because its pretty ... but because when I got it 2 weeks ago it looked like a big flat leather coral (not kidding) lol
after introduction to my tank i sat him on the sand to adjust to the light-8x39w ATI powermodule so here he is two weeks after intro .
one week:
