I will call you tommorow

bigian: how long have you had the pot of gold? Also, how long have you had the baby's breath. That picture would still be out of context if you just recently got one of them.

It's amazing what the exact same coral can look like growing in just different parts of the tank. Let alone the same coral growing in a different system. It's like my Bali slimer when shaded gets a trippy purple hue but has bright green polyps, or when I put it back in direct light it eventually got it's day-glo green like we are all use to seeing it.

I think there are many morphs coming out now. But the original Babies Breath from Hugo has a unique "flowing" polyp i think.
Heres my Babies Breath that i got from Matt at Reefready, who i believe got it from Hugo.

Then i have this one that has no lineage, but look how defined each polyp is. This looks very similar to the "Babies Breath" that was linked to Exotic above.

If thats the case, you can say that about almost any coral.

I beleive this is the same coral. I just took these shots today. I have an aptasia problem and may frag it for safe keeping while I treat my tank.

Only the newer polyps and new growth areas show that "flowing" effect. The older polyps are more pronounced. They also appear different at different times of the day. Like most LPS, they have a swollen/inflated appearance at times and a flat/deflated appearance at others depending on light and flow. When they feed, the mouths open up but I haven't seen any feeding tentacles like I do on my War coral.

Wow i feel for you with those aptasias. Drop a bunch of peppermint shrimp in there. They will take care of them in know time. I had to do that once. Aptasias were gone in 3 days.

You can! And I often do! :P

Okay, this is getting fun now  I see I am ruffling some feathers! Is it you guys want it to be different so bad that your convincing yourselves?

In regards to kev's definition of the difference, unfortunately that got debunked as there are many bb's out there with gold centers too and not all bb's have pink/purple centers but get that way with lower lit systems or encounter it durring the corals new growth.

In regards to beaut's definition, both morphs exhibit "flowing" polyp growth as seen with GCarol's POG here:
product_thumb.php

The only way I, and even more importantly YOU should be convinced they are not the same, is see both morphs growing in the same system for more than 3 months recieving relatively the same light/flow conditions.

I hate when my theories get debunked :D

Justin, It is VERY obvious they are different, not only in color, but growth as well. Being they have grown side by side for the last couple of months. I guess I can post some pix in another month if you really thing it will make that much of a difference...

Justin, you are right. That is a better pic. Didnt see it earlier. But if i dont have it wrong, the only "real" BB came from Hugo, right. You know what, maybe they should just be called "Babies Breath Type Coral" :)
They are all nice in my opinion, name or not.
