Are these moon / favia corals pretty much a stony with a thinner film of flesh?

Been interestedin one of these and have read up on it.

I have 150 DE HQI + ACTNIC in a 2 feet deep tank. Will it suffice or should I hold off? Do they get too heavy w/ age, since most of you folks are putting them on the bottom?

Thanks

These are LPS (large polyp stoney) coral with more meaty polyps that can fluff out of the skeleton. Your lights would be plenty for most lps; most people place them lower in the tank because they like the conditions in the lower regions and so you can get a good view of the polyps

Yeah, I place mine mostly at the base of my Reef, between sand & rock. It gives it a more natural look, plus there is less competition with those blasted mushrooms!
Also, they are aggressive, like most LPS so its good to have as much free space between them & everything else. Most LPS are, btw.

Sincerely,
Matthew
PS.
Don't hassle me about the (lack of ) pics tonight Kev. Too durn tired. I was on the wrong end of the line in Retail on Black Friday. i just forgot to download the cam. I do have one or two that look pretty good, though.

Hi Sheol + Jen Dub,

Thanks for the replies. It seems like some of them though are very fluffy, whilst, some moon coral look like they are more skeleton? I'm still researching and reading up on them.

I plan to place them on the corner somewhere.

NOW I'M DROOLING. And was that a Baby's breath near the bottom? That is a stunning collection, you should've posted earlier!

Matthew

Thanks Matthew, and yes, that is a Baby's Breath.

Not totally sure on this, but it looks like a Goniastrea palauensis I have.

Someday, yes someday, by all that is Holy, I will own my own Baby's breath Favia..
Until then.. I thought so, beauty!

Matthew

Ihavtats29: That is stunning. And realy, REALLY unique. Seen many Favia with blue polyps & green between. But blue interstitial tissue with green polyps is something else again!
Wind: Its either some kind of Favites or (like suggested) a Goniastrea, especially with the deep corallites. Nice one!
