Favias

How close can different favia frogs be kept to eachother? I want to do a lot of different favias in my tank and was hoping they could be near eachother.

Its a complete gamble IME. They are just mean corals, beautiful but mean. I have kind of a favia problem myself :). Wish I had a better answer for you. My suggestion is to keep them on the sandbed or on smaller rocks within your main rockwork that can be easily moved or relocated in the event of a fight.

They also have short sweeper tentacles that could mess with other corals. Best to keep an eye out for those at night and measure the distance you have. Some favias never extend. I have 4 of them and only one extends its tentacles daily.

+3 on the sweepers! They will definitely sting other corals if they can IME. Beautiful, my favorite LPS but not neighborly. LOL

Sincerely,
Matthew

I've had a couple favia corals over the years that were always model citizens. I never saw them eat, much or less battle. Go figure...

i have two i keep by each other with no problems but my 3rd i have to keepo seperate. It does not play nice!!!
Their is no way to tell beside put them next to each other and watch them. First sign of one getting stung by the other then seperate them. Good luck. They are beautys, but must be placed with caution. My one frag, 1" big or so has long 3" sweapers!!!

I prefer a more conservative approach to avoid stinging, tissue loss and possibly death. Don't put them together. Observe them at night and maybe you can move some more together if they aren't in the habit of putting out long sweepers. As others have stated, it is a gamble.

I agree with Reef Bass. I have two favia that are physically touching and show no signs of discontent. Neither extends sweeper tentacles that I have seen.

I have others that extend 3-5 inch sweeper tentacles and they are physically separated in the direction the sweepers flow with the current.
