Favorite Gyre setting?

I just got 2 250's yesterday for my 90 and they are super powerful. I'm still trying to learn the settings but I currently have them on the "circular"mode. Not sure what the name is for it but it's basically on for 1 second where it blows on the top and then it blows on the bottom. The second pump does that same but in reverse. This way the water column spins top to bottom and back around.

fwiw, I read either on this site or reddit where someone was saying that using the "reverse flow" mode a lot hurts the longevity of the gyres. Since you have two, I think you should have adequate flow without having to use the reverse flow more than a tiny bit.
 
Oh wow, okay so then I'll put it only on pulse. I'd like to do the auto ogc settings but can't seem to lower the max flow. Even at 20% all the coral and fish seem to get blown around. It almost seems like it's not really 20% because from 10-20 is a very drastic change.
I'll play around with it some more and hope I can find a better 24hr flow pattern. Wish the advance controller could connect to wifi so I can set it up using an iPad

I have a DSA 105 rimless.When in the setup mode you will see both settings OCD and LTC.When you see them both you can use the dial and move it til one of them is blinking and set the max flow.Hope that helps it is confusing to figue out.
 
Thanks, I think I went a bit overboard with my 2 250s for my 90gal. It's way too powerful. The max I can keep the pumps is 10% and if I even try for 20% everything gets blown around and the fish go crazy. Wish we were able to step a % at a time instead of 10 unit increments.
 
I'm running two XF230's with the advanced controller. I have one on each end of my 120 gallon. I run them in anti sync mode, maximum 70% power and hold for 30 seconds and then quickly down to 10% alternating between the two pumps.

Yea i had a number of people recommend that i get 2x 230's for my DSA 105.One 230 at 50% blows the 12 anemones and LPS around pretty good.You probably would be better off with 2x 230's.
 
I'm thinking I will turn off 1 pump and see how the pulsing works. Hopefully I can get it to mimic the pulse mode of my MP40
 
I have 2 gyres on my 62 cube , 230 and a 130. Untill yesterday, i was using a custom pattern. 0000-0800 alt gyre on anty-sync 30+,20-. From 0800-2000 random pulse at 50 max. 2000-0000 gradual pulse at 4sec 40% anty-sync. This worked pretty good for me, but i just decided to try out LTC at 60% max. Lets see how i like it.

They need some sort of controller to run. The old ones came with a pretty basic controller. The new versions come with the advanced controller. Or you can use the ice cap interface module and hook it up to an apex.
 
I purchased 2 of the XF 250's for my 160 gallon tank 6'. These things move some water. I am currently running the LTC? Mode. I am hopeful to input a custom mode soon.

I had trouble with the LTC and OGC modes, even though I set the OGC max to 20% I came home to sand mountains caused by huge flow (caribsea special grade).

On LTC mode I cant lower the max to less than 50%.

I contacted Maxspect who have sent over a Firmware update which should resolve this. I will do it tomorrow I think, all you need to do is load the firmware on an SD card and then plug the card into the controller. I'll report back if I remember.
