Just wondering what everyone else was currently using.. I just burned out the motor on one of my old baldor's... Are most using cordless? Or is everyone still using corded roto tools..
Any recommendations with pros and cons would be much appreciated?
ditto.. corded all the way. More torque, more power (arh arh arh). While cordless ones can do the job, having an unending supply of power is always a nice thing I too use the black and decker, one of the first ones to hit mass market. Combined with a diamond tipped bit set & discs I picked up from amazon.com I can slice through anything... just wear fully surrounded eye protection so when coral goo comes shooting back in your face it doesn't go into your eyes.
Yah, diamond wheel is the way to go. The thin kerf and diamond grit allows way faster cutting than the regular abrasive wheels. I pretty much never remove the diamond wheel from the tool.
I use the corded dremel with the LED light attachment to see the cut better. I would also recommend getting a face shield to prevent coral bits from going into your eyes and onto your face.
Harbor Freight has a 5 pack of diamond cut off wheels with mandrel for like $2. Its a great deal and they are so cheap you don't have to worry about getting them rusty, etc.
Thanks for the input guys.. So the consensus is higher rpm=better? I have an older variable speed dremel somewhere around here that needs new brushes.. I might try it out first before investing more money... I'll check out harbor freight for the diamond cut off wheels.. What diameter do most of you guys use? .75" 1.5" there are so many different sizes...
I have used lots of rotary tools. I have to say that the B & D is a much more durable tool than the Dremel. I use the cordless Dremel now just because of convenience but the Corded B & D is pretty nice. It's also a lot cheaper.
I use pretty big diamond discs. I just order them on Ebay for like a buck each. Way cheaper than the Dremel ones and much larger. You can cut through pretty thick rock with them.
I think they are 1 1/2". I just go through all the listings and I order the largest size. I'm going to be ordering more in a day or so. Let me know if you want me to post a link to some auctions.
