Favorite store in NW indiana

I have a phone number stored in my cell for it too. Its 2193093723. I've never called. If I remember correctly this guy runs a computer business and runs this place out of his office. Something like that. I haven't been there yet but look at the web site often.

Yea, maybe a field trip this weekend, you guys love that place, maybe it is something to be looked at. I work in GI so I'm close after work for a stop in!

For dry goods I don't think you can beat the selection that the ark has. It just drives me nuts to go there. I have heard some of the worst advice for people starting new tanks from the arks employees. Whenever I hear stores give this bad advice it make me think what are they doing to their own livestock.
I have gotten some rather funny answers from some of the Ark's employees too. But in their defense, I've been to a number of pet stores that have a large number of employees, and its pretty common for the knowledge level to vary from employee to employee. At the Ark I think that there a couple of people who are primarily responsible for the SW husbandry. In my experience they give advice that's as good as you'd get at most of the LFS. There are also a number of people at the Ark who try to help out, even though they aren the key SW caretakers. I guess it all depends on who you're talking to. There's a younger fellow there who seems to be the key man in the SW department. He seems to know his business.

I've never been to Exotic Aquatics. I've got to put that on my to-do list. What's their address?

Corner of Highway and Kennedy in Highland.

Forget Aquascapes... the owner has some issues... she was telling people I was the guy who opened crystal clear, and that she was calling fish and wildlife after me or some agency.. she has no idea what she's talking about... I dont even have a store....she also said I ran a maintenance biz out of a van, and was all PO'd about it.... just goofey.... i've never even been in the biz..just my hobby.... I havent stepped foot in that place in two years...
they have not had livestock in a long time.... dont waste your time...

Pet Haven used to have some cool stuff, but not much lately....

Kurt and Jimmy at Exotic are good people, I do buy from there because they are nice and close, and they are good friends.. better coral selection lately for sure...but I always end up driving to Tinley Park to go to Aquatica and Chicago Reptile....dry goods, corals, fish..... and Aquatica has good prices and are willing to deal with you...ask for Rob.

So your that guy.

The woman at aquascapes seems to have about as much knowledge as a turd. She informed me that there was no need to dip anything in her store because she tranships from really good places. I guess her coral is harvested from a place without flatworms or nudi's. Pet haven - Ken, claudia, and the other girl have always done me right, but they just don't have much of a selection. Valpo Pet & Hobby - Hit or miss, sharon has always been good to me, but they since bob left, then adam, its just been down hill.

Rudy, I am the one that told Joy about that...that woman at aquascapes is nuts.

I can't and wont defend the lady at aquascapes, but I've heard horrible adive given at almost all stores in the region except exotic aquatics and valpo pet and hobby. I've only been in valpo pet and hobby a couple times and have never heard them give advice. The ark is the place I stop at more than any other because they are down the street from one of my stores. I have heard horrible advice from this place on numerous visits. I don't know how many times I've seen them sell a new setup and fish at the same time. I like aquascapes because they are the only store in the area I can go and they will have snails and crabs in stock. Their coral all looks brown because they don't have decent lights and the fish have always looked plain to me.
Rudereefer, that sitution sucks and I'm sorry people can't mind their own bussiness and talk about others. I have been there and have heard them talk about other people. This has been a turnoff for me. Again, all that matters to me is selection. Cuc-aquascapes, fish-exotic-aquatic, dry goods-the ark.
Ok, one last thing about the ark. They are expensive and the owner seems rude. When I ask for a better price they walk over to him and then the return 90% of the time with the asking price. The owner has never talked to me. I've tried to a couple times and he has just walked away from me and had one of his employees help me. Its like he thinks hes better than his customers. In my store I make it a point to talk to my customers, so I just don't understand.

I stopped by The Ark after Christmas when they were advertising a "bowfront blowout sale" that wasn't really a sale at all.

I was looking to buy a 120g RR tank, so I stopped. It turned out that the only bowfront tanks that they were offering were the small bowfront tanks that they had on the floor as leftovers from Christmas. There wasn't really "blowout" pricing, and there were no bargains to be had. When I asked them to give me a price on a 120 RR tank, the owner's wife came back with the retail price. I thought it was really lame to advertise a tank sale that didn't have sale prices, or to expect a customer to pay MRSP when paying in advance to order an item that they don't bother to carry in inventory.

I ended up buying an AGA 75 when one of the suburban Chicago stores had a real tank sale.
