Oh, and the employees dont look like local carnival rejects, and the place smells nice...

Can't say I've ever been to a LFS that had people that looked like carnival rejects....

I liked EA for a while, then I prepaid for a sump set-up and talked with the owner who was going to make it for me... I gave them 4 weeks... guess what... 3 weeks after the due date I had no sump...

I called a guy from the UF forums and had a sump the next day... I still have about $20 in credit left at EA. The coral is nice, and the fish are OK.

Aquascapes - hate the people but they do order from A&M in Michigan so all there fish and corals have been through a curing stage... A&M delivers in there own heated trucks so very low stress on there live stock.

The ark, orders a lot from UWWE so there stock takes a shipping hit, and the corals are so-so... UWWE has great fish, but they are shipped from Cali, making for some stressed critters.

I go everywhere for fish and coral... I like D--L--C, Midwest, and Aquatica... but also have gone to Sharky's (great frags)...

Forget about Frag Island... the owner couldn't handle the work behind running the store with the rest of his life so he closed...

crystal clear - the store had great pricing for a while but has gone up a bit of late... the don't have much coral and what they do have is common and dull... they do pick-ups in michigan on tuesday so wed. is the best day to check them out. they get a few kewl things from time to time, but their another company that I tried to order stuff from that never got ordered...

plus Aquatica just bought out the store next to it and is expanding big time...even more livestock...they had a tone of stuff yesterday...and when they get fish, they get craploads of them... I got a killer super neon green favia...pretty sweet...about eight inches across for 50 bucks...out here it would be $79.95...all day long. And you dont have to get on your knees and beg for a discount... I'm heading up to Kurts Friday to see what Jimmy has...

If we do get this club rolling, I'd be up for group road trips to stores, and car pooling... I'd drive to Wisconsin for corals, because I have a real problem....

I'm planning a trip up to Sharkey's in a couple weeks too... the problem with stores around here is, it's all the same old basic blah...how many leathers, frogs, hammers, brown and dull pink colored corals can a guy buy for his tank, and lame *** yellow tangs, blue damsels, flame angels etc do you want?... And if there's an acan sitting in this area, its WAY over priced..there's a lot out there to be found.... I had to laugh when Jimmy said "Rudy I got a couple of nice wrasse for ya dude".."Their only 500 bucks"... crazy Jimmy, but I still love ya..haha...

Were also planning on getting together to go around and see each other tanks and stuff soon...hopefully...

we made several appointments to go up to frag island...we had won gift certificates for that place...

made the appointment, and he was never freakin there...what a waste of gas..

I'd be willing to car pool to Sharky's as long as it's the weekend I'm off and my wife is off so I don't have my kids.

cool, I will let you know when I'm planning to go....next weekend I have to go to Disney World, so thats out...but after that is all good.

If it's the 15th that is my weekend to work. The weekend of the 22nd I am off. This weekend I work. The weekend of the 8th I'm off. Fridays and Sundays I'm available all day the weekends I'm off. Saturdays after my wife gets home at 4. So hopefully you go when I'm available. If not I'll get up there one of these days. Maybe we can stop at aquatica on the way back or up. Never been there either.

sharkey's is closed...they closed a few months ago..

rudy, am i gonna here about those gift cert until the day i die?

I wouldn't mind having people over for a tank tour but would like it to be warmer because my tank is in the garage until I convince the wife to let me get a bigger tank in the house.

BTW: If people need stuff I still order a considerable amount from Walt Smith & fisheads. have a shipment of Aussie Acans arriving tonight

have you seen my thread about the CMAS FragSwap on 3/15? that might be worth a carpool. I'd also like to check out the DFS thing that's coming up in wisconsin.

You have to go to disney world? Poor baby :)

As far as the prices of things now a days, it is the consumers fault for paying those high prices that cause them to keep rising. Unless I win the lotto I will never be able to buy a $500 fish or coral for that matter. I rarely spend $100 even, and then it hurts.

no poon...i was just the guy driving Brian (coralguy) there the few times, and I was mad at him for not setting up stuff properly... dont take it personally... he said he talked to you on the phone each time....

Right. People will charge obscene prices as long as they can get away with it. They charge whatever the market will bear.

Its really hard to get a foothold in this hobby if you're just starting off with SW reefs. The SW startup costs are bad enough, but then the reef side takes the costs up to another level. Then, if you're looking at really cool stock, the prices are just killer.

We all know what its like -- every time you turn around you're spending another $100. For me there's just no way to justify a $500 fish or coral right now, though I hope that someday I might be able to see planning for a piece of strategic livestock in the future, after the pain of the startup costs have subsided, but man ... that seems like its going to be a long way off...

I'll hook you up with some frags if you're looking for anything.

well, when Jimmy (my friend) tells me prices like that...i dont buy them, i laugh in his face, and tell him he's insane....this is what you need to start doing... haha. If a store owner or sales person quotes you a stupid price...dont say "oh, ok...not today"....say "are you insane? and laugh as you run out of the store knocking down their merchandise off of the shelves screaming".... (i'm just trying to get a laugh out of you guys)

I really did tell him that though.... the problem is there's customers out there that will pay it because they are brainwashed by selling tactics, when they have no real knowledge of the hobby, and have deep pockets...
