Favorite store in NW indiana

yes, i cant wait...NOT

at least I'll be in FL, and not IN....i dont care what I'll be doing....there's also Seaworld.....maybe I can actually pet a starfish or something.....

I may be at Rich's house Sunday....with my friend Pete....

f you do come can you bring some flake? I never got the e-mail of the flake. I wouldn't mind a bag. I keep getting replies but never the original. I can make it later if that works for everyone. That way people can get over their hang overs a little better as well. Waiting for Rich to reply. I wouldn't mind having more people over to give me some pointers on my tank. I know I need some things to change.

you mean this flake!

Check it out.... we had 50 lbs....now down to 12lbs....

These are freezer bags filled up... I can bring some... I'd be happy to give you some input on the tank... I'll check on my flight home now....

I had some errands to run today in the Merriville area so I figured I'd check out both Crystal Clear and Exotic Aquatics......

First I stopped at the "Ark".......... I'd been there before and knew what to expect......... and I wasn't disappointed........ Usual VERY overpriced corals / fish / supplies........ I asked for a price on a small coral not shown on the tank front, and was told that the "saltwater" people didn't come in for another hour........ If this store could get quality help they might actually be someplace I'd make a special trip to, rather than just be someplace I stop in at because I'm in the neighborhood....... Overall, I give it an "A" for "the look", a "B" for the merchandise, and a "D" for the staff.

Crystal Clear was my next stop........... It's small, cramped feeling, with a limited coral / fish selection, but the staff was attentive, and they were willing to discount a few frags when I bought 4......... Nothing special about the place in my eyes, and not worth a "special trip"........... I rate it a "C" for the look, a "C-" for the merchandise, and a "B" for the staff.

Exotic Aquatics was my last stop.......... Very surprising to me that it is strictly saltwater........ NO freshwater at all !!!!! It's run by a father / son team that almost seem to need a vacation from each other. I was there as they were unpacking their shipment from California. While most of the stock looked healthy, and they had some pretty rare and expensive items, many of the tanks were in need of MUCH attention, and the stock seemed to be lacking in the most commmon items of fish, corals and inverts. They had lots of expensive frags that were obviously all from the same original colony and recently cut up........ It kind of hurt thinking they had cut up a nice looking Duncan colony of about 30-35 heads into about 10-12 separate frags. Pricing on many items seemed to be whatever number they pulled out of the air......... But, each of the father / son team seemed knowledgeable, attentive, and willing to help. I rate it a "B-" for "the look", an "A-" for the staff, and as far as the merchandise goes, I guess if you're looking for a $500 pair of wrasses, or a handfull of $100 Acan frags this would be the place for you........ If you're looking for a clean up crew, Xenia, or some peppermint shrimp, (I mean common stock in trade items), you'd probably be better off calling first to check availability.

Of the 3 stops I made, I'd have to put Exotic Aquatics first, The Ark second (only because of the depth of supply inventory, even though they're overpriced) and Crystal Clear 3rd.

Now do yourself a favor and check out Aquatica in Tinley Park, THEN drive to Chicago reptile which is 10 minutes from that........you will NOT be disapointed......

yes, kurt and jimmy are the best around here... I dont know where your from, but there aint &*%@ around here dude... a simple 30 minute drive will save you the grief of hitting three stores in this area...forget the Ark, which has simple beginner corals which are over priced all day long...they specialize in gerbils, birds, and dry goods for furry animals...yuck.... it stinks in there too...

Exotic is the best place we have....Kurt and Jimmy are like family to me....like weird, crazy cousins and uncles that I've had....but love em to death... give them your business...but seriously take a ride to Tinley and Orland...
