Feather duster help

I just bought a feature duster for my 20g tank. The guy at the store said not to worry about feeding it as long as I am feeding the fish but I heard they eat plankton. Is this a problem for my young tank?

I have a large hitch-hiker feather duster in my twenty gallon.

I don't feed it directly but I do dose my zoa's and corals with phytoplanton so it might be picking some up from there. I think you should be ok not feeding it directly. They seem to like moderate currents, at least mine does. I've never kept them intentionally though so I would wait for more advice.

I used to feed my two Kent Microvert, but stopped after a while. Haven't noticed a difference since, both of my feather dusters are still growing and show no adverse signs.

I feed my fish spirulina brine shrimp and frozen prime reef for what it's worth. Though I wouldn't imagine either would work as a filter feeder food.

I guess I'll just hope it eats random stuff in the water and I'll try to buy plankton soon. But now I have another problem: the tube alone is about 3-4 inches, and I can't balance it on a rock to anchor. Is it ok in the sand?

You can drill a hole in the rockwork and insert it in there. As long as you don't have any aggressive tankmates or possibly hermits it should be ok. I like for mine to be in the rock work myself because I have a mantis with it.

I have a hermit, but its really small and the worm is about 5 times bigger. I guess I'll leave it in the sand for now

They def need sometype of substance added to the water .
i use PhytoPlan(advanced Phytoplankton diet).

they will slowly starve over 6moths to a year without food, and they really like to have their tubes in the sand.
