To be recognized by the Reef Central staff as Reefer of the Month is quite an honor. My thanks goes out to the staff and the community at large because without them, I know my tanks would never be as successful as they are.

Like most folks, I started keeping freshwater fish. Living in an apartment, I was limited to what I could keep so I moved out specifically so I could start a saltwater aquarium. Ever since that first 30g setup, I've been attracted to the DIY aspect of the hobby as much as anything. Whether its building the stand or the hood, gluing the plumbing, routing the electrical, connecting the lights, or gluing my kalk reactor and skimmer together, I take great pride in knowing just how much of my current 125g reef I actually built. By making the pieces of my system instead of buying them, I've gained invaluable experiences that I can apply both inside and outside of the hobby. It is my hope that by sharing those experiences with others I can encourage them to not settle for what can be bought, but to try their hand at making their reef what they want it to be.

Congrats Dave. You have been a tremendous research tool for many of us I'm sure. I know my stand I built was off your blueprints.

Congratulations, RocketEngineer!!

Description of RC ROTM:

In appreciation and honor of the members that regularly contribute to our discussion forums, we would like to acknowledge a Reefer each month that stands out as exceptional for their outstanding service to others. This person will be selected by the Reef Central Staff, based on their willingness to help others in response to questions, giving advice, and overall disposition. The honoree will be given the Reef Central ROTM tag, that will appear above their avatar and will follow them for one year after being awarded. This will not only demonstrate to others that you have been chosen as a trustworthy source of information, but also as a positive role model for others to emulate. Additionally, we are pleased to upgrade your membership to "premium" for one year and you will be entered in a raffle along with the other recipients each year to win a special prize to be determined.

We look forward to honoring one person, each month, by highlighting them on the Reef Central homepage. This will include a recent photograph of yourself, or your avatar if you prefer not to show your actual face, along with what you love about the hobby of reef keeping and why you have chosen Reef Central to be your home. Each month the face and paragraph of the ROTM will change, but you can forever hold the honor of knowing that you were one of the chosen few to have earned this title and our respect as a member in great standing.

Best Regards,

The RC Staff

I'm new here and just getting back into the hobby after a 10 year brake but I tell ya every time I find vital it seems that Dave was the poster or at least contributor. Everything explained in easy to understand language to. Well deserved!

Actually, my name is Andrew. Nanook (aka Dave) is responsible for posting the thread. Just to avoid confusion. :lolspin:
