Ive been looking for a gigas for a few months that I liked and found one at liveaquaria....Well unfortunatly it s got shipped out on the wrong day and got caught in memphis with those storms yesterday...anyway it got here this morning around 7 and I got it in the tank at 11:30....

But my question is...it is very stressed and its mouth is gaping pretty bad, is this a bad thing? also what causes the gaping, stress or lack of light?

here is a pic

More than likely, its the extreme stress from the prolonged shipping. It looks bad, but it's not at a point of no return.

Did you slowly acclimate it to your lighting? Even the natural light in your room can shock it after being in completely darkness during shipping.

it does look bad, but it doesn't seem life threatening.
i've had a black and white maxima arrived to me after all the water leak out to the box, i know how you feel. its still alive and well, i skipped acclimation and plopped him in the tank. they are resilient creatures and shouldn't be given up on easily :)

Gigas inhalent siphon is usually quite enormous, so it doesnt even look as bad as that. Give it some time- it'll come around. And call LA- they will take care of you if it doesn't.

Unarce - yup I acclimated in the dark then turned the actinics on

jmaneyapanda - I had talked to them when it got delayed they said they would make it right, I really just hope it pulls through:)
