Feedback on NLS pellets

I've been feeding my fish NLS pellets for the past several months. I don't know much about this food, but it seems they need only a small amount to retain their body weight and color.

Is it perhaps true that this food is somewhat concentrated? Does it contain most all nutrition needed by marine fish?

it is by far the best pellets out there. and it has vit. D which improves the immune system.

but depending on the fish you are feeding, I dont think you can conclude that it contains all nutritions that all fish would need. tangs would need more greens in their diet. but my anthias and clowns are fine iwht just NLS pellets.

mix it up, that way u can be sure they get all they need. :)

My fish actually prefer ON Formula 2 pellets. I feed both, plus lots of other dry/frozen foods.

About 75% of the diet of my fish consists of NLS pellets (Thera-A), with 20% Nori, and 5% PE mysis and fish roe. I really like the NLS pellets, as all my fish go crazy for them and color up well.

It's my impression that a little bit goes a long way. Am I right or wrong?

How much and how often do you feed?

I feed my fish NLS pellets 2-3 times a day as their primary diet with daily feedings of frozen food as well. I put several pinches into each tank and none of it ever goes to waste. Not much is allowed to hit the sandbed, but what does is eagerly hunted down and gobbled up. My fish are nice and fat and happy on these pellets, and it makes it easy for someone else to feed them if necessary. It is more nutritious and more of a complete diet than foods like frozen mysis but I feed them more of it for that very reason, not less.

I can't seem to get all of our fish to eat it after 4 months of trying....

Bangai Cardinals, Marine Bettas & algae blennies won't touch it, nor will the starfish....
OTOH hawkfish, tangs, Angels & butteflies seem to chow down....

Some fish won't eat pellets. My blennies, royal gramma and filefish (except for the OSFF) won't touch them.

I couldn't get my clownfish and now my black line blenny to touch them. they went crazy over Reed Mariculture TDO pellets but would just spit out the NLS. I didn't like the way the NLS pellets sank straight to the bottom, either. The TDO is somewhat buoyant and stays in the water column a long time...the NLS sinks immediately and is lost to the fish. Nassarius snails appreciate it, though!

I had that issue. I just didn't feed anything else for 4 days and my fish took to it. Now they eat it nonstop. NLS pellets are extremely dense so it might take some time for the fish to get used to

I've been using NLS for about five years now. It's the only food that my fish get besides the occasional frozen food just to mix things up.

Been using NLS Ther-A in an auto feeder set on the smallest setting to be sure that my Anthias and other planktivores are getting something through the day. Then I feed a variety of frozen or black worms in the evening.

I'm happy with the product. All my fish have held their color, but here again the frozen I'm feeding includes prawn roe, cyclopeze, DIY food that includes color enhancing additives.

I think this is very often why some people don't have luck with NLS. They try it a couple of times during a normal feeding schedule. Like you say, it takes some fish a little while to recognize new food, especially pellets.

If you haven't had good results and want to incorporate this great pellet, try tapering back on frozen and other feedings and feed the NLS first until your fishes are accepting it regularly.

I'm a big fan of the Small Fish Formula (I imagine the Thera A .5mm is comparable). Its excellent for small mouthed planktivores that cannot fully ingest the 1mm pellets. because of it's smaller size, the SFF also stays in the water column longer (a common issue with the 1mm).

One part of NLS's foods that I really like is the quality of ingredients and the lack of cheap fillers. I have used it to feed many different genera of reef fishes and most take to it naturally. The incorporation of garlic, spirulina, beta glucans and vitamin c (among others) is also beneficial in my opinion.

My fish didn't care for it at first. Try soaking some pellets with a little frozen food...it may trick the fish into eating the pellets a couple times until they understand pellets are food.

My fish have never been crazy about NLS pellets, but Ocean Nutrition, or Salifert Energy Pellets they will eat, they will flat eat Salifert pellets till they drop!

Do your NLS pellets sink? I use them and feed from an autofeeder and they don't seem to sink. When it dumps into the tank, I have it dump right over my vortech. A few drop but not much. My fish don't seem to mind though because they just feed off of the surface.

If you get more surface agitation they will sink. You can also soak them for a few minutes before you feed if you want.

I feed these to my reef and even my leopard wrasse will eat the 1mm size.

I just get a pinch in my fingers and I will soak it in the water, and my fish will come peck it out from between my fingers.
