Feeder Stations - How many SH keepers use them?

Just wondering if you kept a SH feeding station of some sort, and if so, was it made by you or was it bought, or are you using a more natural look to the feeding station (such as cup coral).

Personally, I just use a small ceramic bowl. Nothin fancy.

I had an old clam shell laying around-stuck it to the side of the tank using aquarium sealant.

I just feed the tank. I enjoy watching the horses hunt and move around for their food. I dont understand why you would need a feeding station.

I had one... just a small condiment bowl. It worked fine but I decided it was better for the horses to have to chase after their food and go hunting for the rest in the macro forest.

I shut off the HOB filter and use tweezers to put thawed Hikari mysis and Cyclopeeze or Hikari Spirulina-Enriched Brine into the middle of the tank twice a day. The small powerhead creates just enough flow to keep the mysis swirling. My Kudas go nuts and the skooter blenny and peppermint shrimps wait on the bottom for anything the horses missed or dont find right away. I feed until the cube is gone. I have no doubts that every bit of food gets eaten. The horses definitely like chasing the mysis around the tank. Juveniles like to hang upside down and poke around the rock and clumps of chaeto for pods. My horses and fish are hunters. I would be interested in hearing more about why people use feeders.

Gosh...I feel like more people would use feeders. I went ahead and just bought one and should recieve it tomorrow...thinking atleast 1/2 of sh owners had one. Which is why I bought one. I thought it made feeding so much easier and healthier for sh's.

Oh well...it was $15. I'll give it a try....if it gets to be a pain everytime I feed to use it....i'll stop.

I use one I made, but it is kinda distracting to the rest of the tank.

I suppose I could go without and the horses would find their food just fine.

If you look at the seahorse specialist sites, you will see that a lot of people do use them.

An advantage to using any type of feeding bowl/station is the food does not blow around the tank and get stuck somewhere. This prevents rotting food in the tank AND prevents food from being sucked into a filter to deteriorate until you clean the filter.

With a feeding station, you can observe each horse eat. You can control the portions of food. You can immediately siphon out any leftovers. You won't have food stuck in your filter. You won't have food stuck in rock crevices waiting for the clean-up crew to find it. Overall, IMO, it helps keep water quality up.
