Feeding a Flame Scallop?

speckled trout

I have been feeding a Flame Scallop Kent's Pytoplankton and was wondering if that's is going to be adequate. It seems to be very active and opens fully when I feed the tank. Should I be giving it anything else? Also, I have it in a 42g Hex that has a 24" Coralife with 2 65w Power Compact lamps. Is that enough?

scallops dont need much light u r ok. i feed mine dt phyto. scallops will only live about 6 months so....prob dosnt matter what u feed it

Is 6 months their natural lifespan or a result of our lack of knowlege about their needs? Do they reproduce in the tank?

They have a short lifespan, and large ones are imported.

However, they are easy if fed with a continuous supply of phytoplankton. Its just that people dont do that.

How much do they need to be fed?

How much do they need to be fed?

Has anyone ever been able to successfully keep one for a longer period?

not that I feel strongly about it, but any LFS that sells those poor things is knowingly engaging in an old scam. They live about three years in the wild; no one I've known can keep them alive in a tank longer than six months. Disreputable stores buy them in bulk, then sell them for $6-$8 a pop, knowing they'll all be dead soon, especially the older, larger ones. Good clue that it's a store to avoid when you see them piled up in their tanks. Lots of threads on this here and wetwebmedia.com. OK, so much for the lecture....
