Feeding Brain Corals?

Work In Progress
I just got a a new Brain Coral and I am curious if it is needed to feed them?

If so how? It is quite small right now but I notice it's little feeders come out at night. I tried to feed it mysis but it just closed up. Is there another food that would work well for them? My clown fish just eats all the mysis anyway. Thanks.

Give it some time to adjust. The best way to feed them is wait about 30 minutes after lights go out and all the fish are sleep, then feed it. Cut all your pumps and powerheads off until you are done. Take a flashlight and shine it on the brain to see if the feeding tentacles are out. It will benefit from 2-3 feedings per week.

That's fine but you need to supplement some Mysis, Krill, or Cyclopeeze which are all good choices. Once it get big you can even give it some Silversides. I personally don't like Coral Frenzy as rises my phosphates. I like using Reef Chili.

What is the best tool for feeding them? The one I am using stinks. It's a Kent marine squirt. Problem is you can't feed my sis with it and the hole is way too small.

Why bother them, trying to feed them? They will feed off of what is in the water column, so make sure you feed your fish quality food. They will also make their own food, so provide them with quality lighting. They will be just fine like this.

I use the same thing...but I took a drill bit and made the opening a little bigger so that mysis will go through it.

Interesting replies. I have never specifically feed mine. A standard diet in the tank is Mysis. However, never spot feed. I have had mine 8 years was about 4" now it is about 8 x 10.

The zooxanthellae should produce enough nourishment so supplemental feeding is not necessary. Some people just like to feed.

:lol2:

I kill the pumps and drop some tiny chum on it once in a while. It does a cool thing where the mouths open real slow, looks like a candle melting in the sun. I just use the water from melting my blender mush after I give the fish and the sun coral the bigger chunks. Idk if mine would take mysis, it's mouths seem small for that. Not too often either, there's a lot of nutrition in it, or any coral food, so what they don't eat might wind up as algae

+1

Just use fine meaty foods like mysis, rods coral food, etc and do this about 30-45 min after lights out when the tentacles come out.

They don't need to be fed, but it will aid in growth.
