Feeding bubble tip anemone

I broadcast feed my tank daily with marine cusine, PE mysis, or pellets. My rainbow BTA always gets some of it. So far, so good.

For what it's worth, a feeding study on H. crispa showed no difference in growth rate between feeding one per week, and feeding three times per week. Different species, but food for thought.

I rarely fed our little RBTA and it was the size of a quarter for over a year. Then in about 2 months it blossomed into a gorgeous 6" flowing tentacles-extended home for a maroon clown.
Now I feed about once a week, scallops shrimp of mysis.

Interesting. Did the study look at and find any difference between not feeding vs feeding once per week?

Yes. Both feeding once weekly and thrice weekly showed significant improvement versus not feeding at all. They theorized that there is a level of "satiation" beyond which the anemone doesn't benefit. You can read the paper here:

Effects of feeding on the growth rates of captive-bred Heteractis crispa: a popular marine ornamental for aquariums

It didn't really answer the question of "how much is enough", but it confirms what reefers have observed - if you have a healthy anemone it will grow slowly without supplemental feeding, or quickly with supplemental feeding. (At least with this species for this test).

Twice a week for me aswell, prawns mostly and now and again a fish finger ! I do take the breadcrumbs of though. Lol

I feed PE mysis twice a week to all my nems and they do well. I've heard too many horror stories about silversides and nems so I stay away from that.

I use to feed silversides, I stop feeding a year ago because the rbta were getting too big and then splitting.
