Feeding Copperband

I have a medium size Copperband which has been in QT at my LFS for about two weeks and eating. I have had him in my QT for a couple of days but he is not eating. I know this is a problem with most butterfly's. Any suggestions on how I can entice a feeding response ? He is quite active right now but ignores food. I have a 165G reef with plenty of LR so I imagine once he gets there he will be able to find suitable food. I have been offering frozen food.

They are picky eaters in my opinion, that is why a lot of reefers do not recommend them as solutions to aipstasias.... once the aipstasias are gone then the problem arises.... just my 2 cents

I have heard of people putting clams attached to rocks and let them pick the clam apart. Lower the flow in the QT and see if it will pull something floating slow in the water or that hits the bottom. Mine picked the rocks clean for about 3 days and then saw the other fish eating mysis and decided to give them a try, now it won't eat much else!

Good Luck

How long have you had yours and does he have much competition for foos from other fish ? I am worried that once in my display tank he will not fight for his fair share against anthias, yellow and hippo tangs, green chromis, etc.

I could send you a poopload of Aiptasia!Hehe.Seriously,if you dont have an anenome problem, try cut clams on the shell.Get yourself some while yer at it.Great with Sam Adams double bock,or that wonderful Triple X Molson we can't get down here!

Not much competition, all peaceful tankmates.Gobies,Blennies and the like. Can you get Rod's food?www.rods-reef.com Had her for six or so weeks now.I actually saved her from sure death at a not so local LFS.He offered to freshwater dip her and wipe the fungus from her fins. After a little QT,I put her in and she went straight for the Aiptaisia!

I have been trying Hikari and PE Mysis, but he is not eating much. Just a few nibbles. I find he is getting thin and am worried I might lose him if he doesn't start eating more. Any tips anyone ?

thanks for your help.

What have you tried so far? I would try frozen mysid, brine, bloodworks etc. If no response try live enrichened brine shrimp. If not try taking opening up a fresh clam for him. You can also try putting a piece of rock in there that has some aiptasia.

get some blackworms(dont touch bare handed they carry hepatitis-c) and put them in front of your return pump and when they smack the CBB in the face he wont be able to resist

PS I would NEVER intentionally place aiptasia in my tank, maybe thats just me, but I would not put a rock with aiptasia on it in my tank on purpose. Thats one of the worst ideas I have ever heard of, no offense.

ive had two.
mine always have eaten great..
just frozen mysis or any algae on established rock etc.
add garlic to the food to entice appetite

I have ordered garlic extreme and am going to try to pick up blood worms on my way in from work. Not sure I have ever seen blackworms. Tried the open clam, no iterest. He will eat approx 2 mysis per feeding. Then he ignores the rest. Not sure that is enough to sustain him for very long.

OK, tried blood worms with Entice. No interest. Ignores them completely. I got him to eat a few frozen brine shrimp this morning. Hardly enough to sustain him...

help....

I stuck a piece of LR in the QT with feather worms on it. He ate them in no time. Now ther are no more. I wonder if I shouldn't try live food ? Not sure where to get some in Montreal... I guess I could find brine shrimp eggs and hatch them. Then again, I understand they are not very nutritious. I think I would have to enrich them. Not sure how to do that. Any suggestions on the live food front ?

Try some live brine shrimp but keep trying with frozen blood worms, they are close enough to feather dusters that he will be interested sooner or later. Rinse the worms under tap water using a small sive net before adding them to the tank.
Also try mixing the live artemia with some frozen enrcihced one, once he is eating that mix in some small misys.

I just got some brine shrimp eggs today and am in the process of hatching them. I also found a supplier for live black worms locally so I will try those later this week.

Thanks for the great advice.

I hope to get them on Wed. In the mean time, I put a couple of LR pieces from my display in there with a bunch of small feather dusters. He seems to be eating those. I hope that keeps him alive as he is getting REALLY thin.
