Feeding Copperband

Been tagging along, hope the live stuff does the trick. They REALLY like those tiny fan worms on the live rock, don't they!Off track just a bit,my Copperband has been quite the hider for the seven weeks I've had her.Today, after a two week quarantine at the LFS,I brought home a small Powder blue tang, and a small Sailfin tang. They buddied up with the Copperband almost instantly,I've seen the Butterfly more tonight than since I've had her.Very pretty bunch.Hope yours gets over her picky phase, and does well.John

Are you serious about blackworms carrying hepatitis-c?! :eek2:

Just the thought freaks me out on why anyone would risk it.

Bad news. It didn't make it. Passed away Tuesday night. I was expecting the live black worms on Wed. Too late. Sad.

I plan on adding a copperband in mid june. I will be QTing it for at least two weeks. and I am definatly going to try the black worms. My LFS has them. I'm sorry to hear about yours my friend. if it's any consolation, I've lost two in the last 2 years. I could not get them to eat enough, but I hear the black worms are almost a sure thing, especially the live ones.

maybe you could give it another try sometime too....

liveaquaria.com will ship you specimens that are already eating.
The larger the fish the better.

Will the Copperband really eat the live brine? I'm curious because freshly hatched brine are so darn small. I've dosed my tank a few times and I don't see it eating any of the brine shrimp (return pump and everything off).
I did see him nibble at a large frozen brine shrimp, but then he spit it out. These are one of the hardest fish to feed for sure. I'm still trying blood worms, mysis, roti feast (no interest whatsoever). Not sure if I can get live black worms.
I have well over 200lbs of LR, but I'm sure that's not enough to sustain him as he's appearing a bit gaunt.

try putting some mysis in front of your return pump, heck throw them in at the pump, and when they come out in the current theyll smack the CBB in the face and he wont be able to resist. Hopefully, this is the only other method besides live blackworms Ive heard of working to get them to eat.

Well, it's not scientific, but I lost two before my third did fine. My third was 5 inches from tip to tail; much larger than the two that died. It's been in my tank for over a year now. Blackworms were irresistible. It also eats frozen mysis, bloodworms, and brineshrimp.

I have the impression that the healthier specimens come from Australia while the smaller ones come from other parts (indonesia or so) were the collection practices may not be as stringent.

Well, patience and persistence pays off. Threw some live blackworms into return and smacked the CBB face.

Day 1
He swam away thinking awful creature was attacking him.

Day 2
Ate 2 blackworms and was full or just didn't care to eat anymore.

Day 3
Ate double the amount from the previous day, but wouldn't touch the dead ones on the bottom.

I don't want to jinx myself, but I think I'm on a roll. At least he's still got some mass to his body and isn't bone thin.
I'm hoping to wean him from the blackworms and onto frozen foods soon.

Hmm does this happen a lot (to potential copperband owners)

Copperbands eating in the LFS but not eating in your home QT ?

I have never experienced it. If it eats in the LFS, then it will definitely eat in your QT. Unless, of course, your QT is stuffed with fish.
