Feeding Frozen Myiasis

I just switched to frozen myiasis for feeding from flake food. I have been just thawing a cube in tank water in a small cup then adding it to the tank with a baster. I have been reading where most thaw then strain out the shrimp and dump the rest due to getting higher nutrients. I have been just using the leftover water in the thawing cup and feed corals with it. Anyway whats everyones opinion on how they feed myisis-thaw/strain or keep up with what I'm doing.

Either way is really fine...if you have a phosphate issue then straining would be a better choice

I thaw mine in a little squirt bottle in salt water. If your nutrients are high, you can thaw them, strain them, add new water and feed. I have low nutrients so I don't do that now.

i never rinsed it but 2 or 3 times a week i soaked it in either selcon or vita chem.

Piggybacking on this topic. I have been thawing my cubes in tap water and straining into a net, then adding to the tank. Can anyone foresee a problem using tap water?

I've never had any problems using the "juice" and I do let the food thaw out in a cup of tap water beforehand.

I don't see any problem other than you may be introducing some very small amount of whatever is in your tap water to the tank. But the amount would be so small it shouldn't be an issue IMHO.

On the other hand, you are just making extra work for yourself.

I put 2 or 3 turkey basters full of tank water in a big mug, then add frozen food and dry food I want to hydrate so it doesn't float. Just before I use it I add some flake food and then feed the tank with the turkey baster and the pumps turned off.

Thats a good idea, but Im battling a nasty algae issue. Im straining the food just to help prevent any excess nutrients being introduced.

I thaw mysis on a paper towel and let it absorb the juice. Then lift it off and put it in a cup for several days feeding. Much easier than rinsing it, as I don't lose any shrimp pieces.

That's tedious. I'd try a diff brand of mysis. Petco has a brand that is overall quite larger in pieces. Hardly any lost when straining with a standard aquarium net.
