feeding lps coral

hi there, I have a decent size frogspawn, and a couple other lps pieces and i was wondering if i am feeding them right or if i should be doing something different. as of now i target feed them with phytoplankton once a week and thats about it. ive read about feeding them with mysis or brine shrimp and tried that a few times but it didnt seem very effective. i want to make sure im feeding them right before i get more expensive pieces

The phytoplankton is more for feather dusters and such, not LPS corals. Feeding things brine shrimp or mysis is what you want to do. If they won't eat those, your just going to have to try different things. (pellets, live blackworms, Rod's food, etc)

how should i go about feeding them with that? defrost a cube of shrimp and then suck it into the little dropper and put it around them?

That will work. You might want to turn your powerheads off though.

I have a small plastic stick that I use to feed certain corals. It's about 1.5' long, and about 1/2" in diameter. I just throw the food in this and hold it right above the coral. Sometimes it takes awhile for the food to sink, but it's very effective.

i just used a dropper that i had and lightly pushed the shrimp out of it so they stuck to the polyps. then had to fend off my pink square anthias and chromis as they tried to take the food from the coral lol. i had noticed it wasnt opening as large recently and thought maybe i wasnt feeding it correctly. it looks healthy, just looks as if it hasnt been opening as big as when i first brought him home about a month and a half ago or so

If your having problems with your fish stealing the food, you might want to place a net inside the tank right next to the coral. This will keep them at bay for a little while.

Another nifty LPS feeding tool - cut the top half off a clear plastic bottle and attach clear plastic tubing to the neck. Basically you've got an upside down funnel. Place the cup over the coral you want to feed, dump food down the tube, and observe! It protects the coral from greedy shrimp and fish during feeding time, too

I did use my net to keep them at bay until the coral seemed to eat most of the shrimp and I distracted the fish with some shrimp on the other side. I do like the idea of the upside down plastic bottle. Seems like I had a successful feedig for the most part though.
A few hours later it had a thin brown string of what I'm assuming was poop on a couple of the heads.

I've never fed frogspawn.. They do just fine.

They do, but they grow faster if you feed then.

I feed my tank with coral frenzzy i haven't seend any coral that don't like it, as soon as i feed then with the frenzzy all of then grab the food and retract.

As was mentioned, you don't have to feed them. I feed mine clams. They have a mouth and eat so I figure, it can't hurt and I have them for many years and they do seem tio grow a lot faster if you feed them.

+1 corals love this stuff. I target feed Coral Frenzy when I can remember to do it. This is really helpful for new reefers with a bunch of LPS frags. I target feed 3-5 times a week to help my frags grow faster.
