Feeding Moorish Idol

I am going to get a Moorish Idol and I need to know what to feed it. I have kept a Moorish Idol before and I had it for 2 years but it (and the rest of my reef tank) died by electrocution from a heater. Now I have a new tank that has been running well for 3 years and I am getting a new Moorish Idol. The last one was fed a formula that my LFS would make for them but now it is gone and I don't know what it had in it. I know they eat sponges and algae but what else do I need to feed it?

I just got one today, I recommend you get a younger specimen, I have mine in the quarantine, and it picks at the Coraline algae all day, even the dead one on the pump. I also suggest you try putting frozen brine shrimp in front of a powerhead, they seem to love things that wiggle. Mine also has a preference for brine shrimp. Good luck!

Ok. I ordered my Moorish Idol from my LFS; he should be here by Tuesday!!!!! I'll try the BS, veggie flakes, various algae growing in the tank and garlic to help get him to eat. I'll just throw it all in the blender, dry it and see what happens.

You might try reading this thread. Aparenlty by seredipity you had the right food before, Without that, it becomes a little less simple.

Also I am not expert on these fish, but brine shrimp alone will not keep these guys alive and healthy. I would read the morish idol primer on this site.
