Feeding pods with skimmate?

I set up a couple of buckets of old salt water (from the water change) with the intent of cultivating pods. After a week some algae on the walls is beginning to develop. I am planning to seed the water with some tisbe pods in about a week.
Something that I am pondering on is eventually adding some skimmate to the bucket water as it just might be the perfect food to keep the colony fed and growing. My only concern is that the putrid muck might have some undesirable chemicals in it that won't benefit the pods.
I suppose trying it out is an easy way to test the idea but I figured to ask the group for some guidance before doing something undesirable. What do you think??
Also, how critical is the water salinity??
Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

I think it is much easier to just add some kind of macro algae or dose phyto, less odor too I'm sure, safer.
Skimate belongs in the porcelain throne and nowhere else as far as I'm concerned.

While I'm of the opinion that the skimmate should be sacrificed to the porcelain gods as suggested above, the scientist in me says "you have a couple buckets, try one out with it and see what happens." Worst case you have to reseed and start the bucket over.
