Feeding recommendations for S. Gigantea?

(I think) I've read in these forums that the normal feeding guidelines for giganteas is a pencil-eraser size a couple times a week. I am trying to grow my gigantea as big as feasible for my 300g. My 18" purple (5mos old) has a 1-1.5" mouth. Does anyone have the background or history behind the eraser sized feeding recommendations? If not that, what protocol are other people feeding their giganteas?

Once they are healthy, you can feed them much bigger pieces than that. Mine ate my flame angel and just spit out the bone. A large turbo snail gone with just empty shell. I bet eat will eat a large table shrimp without problem. I still would chop up larger pieces of seafood to 2-3 cubic cm size and feed them.
Eraser size are just for newly introduced not well Gigantea.
They are fish eater so anything size small to medium fish would be fair game (not daily but several times a week is fine)

For the first six months I fed mine every day. Okay, maybe I missed a day here and there. I started out with maybe a 1/2" cube of food, and worked my way up to whole, peeled, and beheaded table shrimp. It got up to about two foot across. Now I feed it when ever I think about it. Maybe once a month. It has shrunk down to about 12 to 16 inches. I plan on upping the feeding so it will put on a little more mass.
