ive run across some people saying that tangs will feed on cheato macro aglae. im wondering if this is a good food to supplement their diet. i grow it in my sump-a-fuge so it wouldnt be hard to collect a good amount to feed them and would make life easy because it wouldnt pollute my tank like nori could. any thoughts would be helpful

thanks in advance

do it, your tangs will thank you for it. and what they dont eat is technically still alive, so it wont pollute your tank.

It is good food for them if they will eat it. Most will.

It is not an export mechanism if you don't remove it from the system, but if you aren't introducing new food, then I imagine that it is almost just as good.

well thats good to know. it will make life easy i can just feed them that and it might just keep my sump under control as far as trimming goes

IME, low light cheato grows thicker and denser. This is not digested well and often comes out as green as it went in, good bowel care though. cheato grown under good lightind is often less dense and seems to be digested better, just my 2c

I'm not sure if it would happen in a tank with a skimmer but I run a skimmerless system (mud filter) with chaeto and other macro's. Chaetomorpa got into my display and it's not all that easy to erradicate. (I have no tangs however).

One tiny fragment is all it takes. The stuff contaminated my Halimeda clumps and it is REALLY no fun trying to remove it. I have stepped up the effort recently but I suspect it will take a few weeks of regular removal to rid myself of it.
