female from pair of o. clowns died

how would i find another one??? or should i just sell this guy and buy another pair??? he looks really lonely now, doesn't swim much any more, he kinds of just hangs out where the pair used to. its so sad for me to watch. any suggestions?

you can get a smaller clown and it will become the male and your current fish will become female....

it has to be the same kind right? and how small is small? the 12$ ones at the LFS... bout 1/2 inch insize or can i get a bigger one... ???

I wouldnt get one larger than an inch. ideally you want a fish roughly half the size of the larger one

o k cool... thanks for the info. and i been reading the sticky above... i saw some black clowns at the LFS but only 1 was left. i was thinking bout getting it... any suggestions??? i know the stickey said its a nono for long term.... hummmm...???

you have to be careful with "black clowns" or "black percula" they are often polymnus mislabeled. True Black ocellaris usually run between $40 and $70 so if it's significantly less it is probably not an ocellaris. Once you've seen a number of black ocellaris and black and white polymnus they're pretty easy to tell apart but the easiest way, if you aren't very familiar with them, is to look for yellow on the edges of the fins and tails. If there is any yellow it is polymnus and not ocellaris.
