Fighting conch

I placed it in my tank last week. I acclimated it for one hour. It has only moved about 4 inches. Should I take it out of the sand and see if it is still alive. All water parameters are right on the money. I have not checked my magnesium but doubt that has an effect. Salinity was off 4 points when I did receive it.

Not an expert on conches, but any snails I add to my tank always move a few inches and then just stay there for the next day or two before finally locating.

Well this morning I dug him out put him somewhere else. He is alive back close to the old spot. People said how they enjoyed there's. Mine is something special looks like a log out in the woods.

I had about 3 or 4 at one point in crab/lagoon tank, and sometimes they would be really active and move a lot, and sometimes theyd stay in about the same place for several days. They were always fun to watch though

Mine would hang in one area for a couple days, then go explore the tank for a few days, then hang out...and you get the idea. I passed him to a buddy with a 210 because I just wasn't certain that my tank was big enough to support it.

Mine stayed in one place for two days right after I added it. It still has not moved more than a 6in radius from where I first placed him (lots to eat there?). He is only moving around at night, and I'm still not sure if the LFS sold me a whelk instead. He doesn't look anything like the conch I used to have, is not as active, and I have yet to see a defined eye. So far, however, nothing is amiss, and the sand in his area is really clean.

I though I had lost mine- hadn't seen it for almost a month. Finally located it and attempted to remove him. Absolutely freaked me out when he tried moving while in my hands. He cruises around for a couple days, stays pretty still for a couple. I'd leave it be and let it do its thing.

my 2 move for a couple of hours then stay hidden for a couple of hours vice versa and if they move far they usually reburrow for a couple of hours

Yes Fighting Conchs are pretty finicky when it comes to behavior, sometimes they are very active and other times they will stay stationary for a significant period of time. It is always ok to pick them up and make sure they are still alive, better that than him decaying in your tank!

Ok wanted to update. Pulled him out of the same spot since I got him. He was still alive. He went back to the same spot and buried again. I think my live rock moves more. I guess alive is better then dead

Really can't believe it. Yesterday my conch finally came out and am wondering why. My fox face died wonder if he was harassed.

In my previous tank my fighting conch was very elusive to the point where I did not see him for 6 months. Thought he was dead then one day there he was.

My current fighting conch is very active and cruises/vacuums the top of the sand.

I think it has to do with how much nutrients you have in your sand. My current tank is fairly sterile so he's gotta work to find a meal.
