Are they good for cleaning substrate? What if any are there preditors?

They're great. They stick their 2 eyestalks above the sand, while working, and might be vulnerable to nippy predatory fishes in that position. Do not put them in with plate or tongue coral, [their spur can rip the plate, fatally, by accident] but outside of that they're great. 1 per 50 gallons.
