fighting the battle with Sea Spiders!

Hey guys, ive been spotting sea spiders on my sps late at night. ive been pulling the coral out and dipping in freshwater to get them to drop off. its been working and some corals have opened back up. there coming back. Does anyone know if flatworm exit will kill these sea spiders also. i know theres a product just for the spiders but i would like two kill two birds with one stone. thanks

I wouldn't dip sps in freshwater. They don't tend to handle it well. You might try TMPCC or a high strength iodine dip....Interceptor might be efective if they are in fact arthropods(not sure if they are myself but I'm sure it would be easy to look up).

Have you noticed the spiders actually doing damage...any pics?

i know only one other member that ever had sea spiders and he was fighting a losing battle and threw in the towel. I dont remember who the member was but he did post info here. Maybe youll be lucky enough and he will chime in.

im doing quik dips with mostly the base rock in the water or just a few seconds for coral in the water. I know i have to be careful with the freshwater there but these corals are quite hrdy and do ok till i get the proper product for them. that is dishartening to hear turtle. I would think if they lay eggs on the corals or at base of rock coral is on i should be able to dip a product and get them

if there in my live rock structure this couyld be a nightmare. yes they do a lot of damage. the base of corals start to fade and not have polyp expansion. some corals improve after i swoosh them in the freshwater . youi can sea a few spiders jumping off. VERY HARD TO SPOT SOMETIMES)

I suspect more people have them than you think. i noticed one coral not growing well and fadind and didnt catch these things for well over 7 months. if you go to pluck them with tweezers they sometime will jump off and float threw the water column. tuff to remove by hand. thanks for the pic clkwrk

keep in mind sometimes i spend 5 mi utes looking intensly at corals before i spot them. I would feel better knowing i could dose the tank itself than just a dip with the tpmm.....(sp)

i fought these once before, the biggest problem is that they don't lay their eggs on the coral, they scatter them into the water column and spread like mad and they DO hide in the liverock! i know you probably don't want to hear it but i ended up having to completely remove all the water sand and live rock, fill the tank with freezing cold fresh water for a few hours to kill stragglers, remove and wipe the sump clean, then refill with new sand & liverock & add the corals again after dipping them. they're extremely tenacious little sob's

Wow does anybody have a proper name for these guys?? Another new acro predator??? Red bugs, Aefw, and now spiders oh my!!! Sounds like another difficult varmint to kill... I wonder if there are any natural solutions such as a wrasse??? Let us know how it goes.... I will have to look over my corals closely now to see if I have them!

Spiders in my reef?? If this is true, I will be selling my tank! I truly hate, I mean hate spiders! Creepy bastards won't come at you head on they always sneak up on you. If they come at you head on, one shot palm, or shoe, DOA, but no they always crawl up your arm, shirt, pant leg, or god forbid, down your shirt. Christ getting schieved just thinking about them touching my precious sps. lol
