filling tank procedure

I'll be filling my 75g aga rr tank tomorrow. I have a 30g sump.

I already have the mega flow installed and tubing ran from and to.

How should I go about filling this up? Should I fill till water goes through the overflow to the sump...Allow the sump to reach it's baffle peak, and then turn on my quite one pump? I guess I'm trying to understand when to turn on my pump...I do not want to over fill and wreak havoc on my carpet.

Have you tested your plumbing for leaks yet? When I did my 120g, I filled just the overflows all the way up, then added a bucket of water to each to see how my dursos worked and how the water drained, also checked for leaks around joints and bulkheads.

Easy,

Fill up the tank even if the water makes it to the overflow and to the sump. Once the water in the sump has reached the level you are looking for, turn on the pump.

You will need to add more water but it wont be much. Just enough to replace the amount of water that was displaced when the pipes got full (actually running the tank).

Once you have it running, make sure you turn off everything and let the tank sit. See if your sump can handle all the backwash in case of a power outage. Most people forget that small detail and when they come back after a power outage, they have a flooded room.

i havent tested the plumbing yet..that is my real concern. I do not get my rodi until tomorrow so i'd rather not use tap to test with

I tested with dechlorinated tap...no biggie, didn't hurt anything. Drained it out, rinsed out a little with some RO/DI, no harm done. Good part was that I found a leak at one of my bulkheads and ended up having to replace it because I simply couldn't get the leak to stop. Good luck on the new fill up.

I would fill with tap water first for leak test unless you have a way to store all that DI water if you have to drain it, and yes just fill your over flows first so you can check your bulkheads for leaks, if you have a leak you only have to deal with that much water, mine leaked and was luck just to have to tighten it a bid more. One step at a time, but then, if you do it your way, and have a problem, you then have the experience to answer someone elses thread!! LOL.

I agree, test with tap water; you wouldn't want to waste all that processed water should you have to drain the tank.
