filter and powerhead

I was wondering what HOB filter would you guys recommend for my 29 gallon tank and if I need to get a powerhead or not and which one of those to get. Thanks!

I use the aquaclear filters with pad and carbon in it. I also use the powersweep powerheads. I have 2 small ones in my 20gal. tall.

thanks for the input, i'm looking for ones that will be fairly quiet b/c the tank is in my room. how quiet are these? Or does anyone know of any?

AC's work well and are quiet. get one that is rated for at least 50% more than the tank volume. for instance, i run a AC30 on a 18T (real volume of a 20T). i run LR rubble as media, and top it with a small pillow of chemi-pure.

i never cared for power-sweep PH's as mine spent more time apart to get it sweeping again than not. personally, i just drop a piece of rigid airline into the tank as a bubbler. since that may bother you noise-wise, if you want a PH, look into the Korallia nano model. make sure it's a nano tho...the larger models aren't safe for SH without modding them.

Thanks namxas, I think i'll go for the korallia nano powerhead. Do I have to cover the filter intake with anything so that the horses tails don't get stuck in it?

What mod are you talking about. I was planning on 2 K3's for my 55gallon SH tank. I was going to put the flow caps on the ends of the powerhead but if they are too strong then perhaps I should invest in the nano.. How many for a 55?

I have a nano in my tank. Flow seems a little high. Can it be moded to decrease flow? Sorry if this is a hijack. . .

I would just change where it is pointed to unless your tank is really small or you are keeping dwarfs. Maybe your seahorses are quite young.

IME an adult barbouri can swim right up and through the current produced by a nano.

Nanz, you can cover the outside of the pump with a grating or sponge, similiar to the piece of sponge that comes with the vortech. This will close off the grating so the seahorse can't get there tail in.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think to cover the grating. That should slow the flow a bit, too.

Thanks,

Dave-

you are talking about putting the sponge on the back side of the K3 grating where it draws the water in?
