WHAT PORCH ?
im setting up 150 (72x28x18 ) instead of drilling overflow im thinking about putting my 55 gal right behind but a lil higher so i can pump water from 150 to the 55 let drian back into 150 (no overflow worries)any one done this ? will it work ? thanks

I have never seen it done ,but Im sure you could.
Are you that worried about the overflow?Just drill it and you wont have any worries.Drilling sounds scary but its pretty easy!
There is overflow boxs too that hang on the tank.?
That way your talking about could have many issuses.
Like heat, space, the pump hanging in the tank,ect...

any one around kent that would like to drill it ? :) :eek1: . was thinking about a corner overflow inside tank to hide pump dinning room very big so a custom stand would fit . the origanal pine stand that came with tank needs a lil work. its a lil loose in places . i was thinking about boxing it in with oak or cherry . either way i need a hole drilled either in 55 or 150 . any one knows how and could stop by let me know what you charge and come on over :) .wife ready kill me my old 120 just sitting on side porch with few other tanks and the 150 in middle of floor

If you did the 55g behind but a bit higher than the 150g you would still need a "U-tube" siphon or were you planning on doing some sort of "spout" to let the water flow over the edge and into the 150g? The 55g would need to be tilted unless you cut a small section of the glass out for an overflow area.
If you were thinking the "U-tube" route then the problems you are trying to avoid (losing siphon and overflowing the tank) will still exist. Your "U-tube" would need a constant flow of water and if bubbles entered it then collected at the top, it would soon lose siphon and your pump would continue to fill the 55g while the 55g wouldn't be draining into the 150g and then excess water will spill to the floor.

I have a 140g fuge that is gravity return and is mounted 1/2" higher than my displays but I drilled the tank and plumbed it to flow to the displays as soon as the fuge level is above the display level. I used two 1" drains and only run about 350gph through it so it will not overflow and there isn't too much flow through the fuge.

BTW, a lot of 55g tanks are tempered on all sides so drilling it is about a 50/50 chance of ending up as scrap glass.
