filter sock, above or below water?

my overflow comes down below the water level of my sump. I have a sock on the end, which is almost 100% submerged.

should i cut the overflow pipe to end above the water level and have the sock about water?

with the rim of the sock about an inch or 2 above is better because it would defeat the propose if water was bypassing over the rim or under water

if you run a sock make sure you have more than one because they will need to be changed about every 3 days to a week because thet will clog up with detritus

I don't think it matters as long as the sock is secured to the pipe. It becomes one in the same. Above water, below water, it's all one piece now.

good you will need. i have three systems using 4 socks. i have 20 so im always ready

it does matter, because you wont be able to tell if it's becoming blocked if its below the water, and also will bypass the sock even if its not blocked.
You have to mak the water go through it and if its below the water it will take the easy way out the top of the sock

what if the top ring is out of water and around the drain and the bottom of the sock is in the water? I all goes through the sock and not over the top? Or is this not good either? Thats my set-up btw.

mine too technically.. but after even a few hours its coming out the top some

if the plastic ring is out of the water thats good thats how you want it. You really dont want the ring any closer to the water than 2 inches really or it will over flow as it becomes cloged. definitly not under the water. the lower to the water the faster it will over flow. personally I dont use them much to me they are more trouble than they are worth
