Filter Sock Question

So here is a pic of my sump.

As you can see the drain hose for my sump connects to a bulkhead which has a short pipe that fits into the filter sock. I have added an extension of the short pipe down below the water to help reduce sound. After a couple days the sock appears to be saturated and starts flowing over the top of the sock? I cannot imagine the sock being saturated to this point what am I missing here.

Depends on the micron rating for
the sock. The smaller it is the faster it will become plugged up. Do you turn off the return pump when feeding?
I change mine every few days

200 micron will let things like oyster feast through but trap anything larger and usually clog up in less than a week, have several on hand and your set as they really help keep the water polished

Thanks everybody I guess the lesson is I need to change the sock more often. . I can live with that just wanted to make sure. The tank is pretty new but I am trying to keep everything pretty sterile. I 'll make sure to post more pics.

My PM sump came with 100 micron felt socks which clog quickly. I invested in 6 pair of 200 micron mesh socks from BRS which take about twice as long to clog( 4-5 days ). Seems like a good investment at this point.

Try not to let your sock sit long b4 changing. the waste in the sock will begin to break down and add nutrients to your water which completely defeats the purpose of the sock.

It is a 100 micron sock so maybe i need to change to a 200 micron. I will also just plan on changing the sock every 2 days as it. Thanks for the advice. I tried removing the sock for a few hours but there is way to much junk floating around for me to do that.

Do you think this is a bad idea that may cause the tank to overflow? I understand the concept that these must be changed often or leak nutrients back into the tank this is really an effort to make one last 2-3 days and make changing them eaiser.

Ok stupid plan. This worked for about 5 min then poped the bottom hose off. am going to buy some 200 micron bags and try them out. BRS has two kinds which is everyone using. Felt or Mesh? I currently use have felt.
