Filter sock question

Hey everyone, just a quick question, i was told by a Freind of mine that I could clean the filter sock in the washer machine. I have been buying new filter socks every 2 weeks for my 90 gallon and was curious about washing them via a washer machine. Isn't that harmful? Any tips would be appreciated. Sorry for the newbie type question, been in the hobby for about 9 months now.

I change my filter socks twice a week and throw them into a bucket. When I have six socks I run my washing machine through a plain rinse cycle empty. After it finishes I throw my socks in and run it on a long cycle with the hottest water I can. I do not use any additives like bleach or soap and the socks come out very clean. I've never had a problem using them in my tank after this procedure. HTH

I just throw my dirty socks in the wash with the rest of my whites. No problem.

I will give them a good rinse under the tap before using them again though.

I change out filter socks every 3 days, I put the used ones in a bucket and after 8x socks are dirty I turn them all inside out and run in the washer on hot. been using the same socks for 1+year.

I throw mine in the washing machine and run it on the white cycle with a little bleach. Come out looking great.

I just throw mine in a bucket with hot water and bleach and let them soak overnight. When I get off work since I work graveyard, I just get home and rinse them out with the hose and use a high pressure nozzle. It works for me since my wife doesn't want filter socks in our brand new washer lol. I just leave them outside in the clothes line all day in the sun to take the bleach out and done. I do flip them inside out while rinsing them out though to get all the stuff out. Its a pain but I have 18 filter socks and rotate 3 at a time every 5-7 days.
