Filter Socks and Pods in Bare Bottom

since changing over to BB I've been using filter socks which definitely help to keep the display and the sump clean, however I have yet to see any pod population boom. Could the filter socks be catching all my pods and their larvae therefore keeping the population from increasing???

I'm planning on buying pods to add to my fuge (has chaeto) and to my display. I currently do not have any fish or coral that eat pods so I know that's not the problem and I also bought my chaeto from my LFS that is loaded with pods. should I only use the filter socks during feedings???

I honestly let all my crud float around. I dont have clear water per se, but I think its serves it purpose having particulate matter floating around. Almost like the ocean, always stuff floating around and in turn feeding corals. As far as your pods go, there are plenty of pods on and within your live rock. The sock is for sure catching them tho. Take a flash light to your tank several hours after all the lights have gone out, you'll be surprised how many pods there are. Whether you want to keep it on or not is up to you really. I've seen a few people make pod population areas. Which is basically some plastic mesh filled with rock rubble and that is placed in the fuge or tank (where it cant be seen) and pods can go in there, reproduce and be safe from fish tho eat them. Might want to look into something like that if you're concerned.

Thanks glxtrix! I have some rubble rock curing in a seperate tank that I plan on using for pods but I never thought of using plastic mesh, that's a great idea!!! I think I'll probably take the filter sock off for about a week and then maybe just use it two to three times a week after feedings.
